I'm getting annoyed that my flatmates are bullying me into making a charitable donation to their skint friend....
he moved out but won't get a deposit paid until the property is vacated.
landlord won't accept a deposit from me or sign a contract cos it's a short-term let. so they want me to give him his deposit and then trust them to pay me when they all move out...
they said 'we can't afford it'
but basically, you didnt pay deposit, he did, now he moved, he wants deposit, you pay him, get his when you move out?
but what guarantee do i have that i will get anything?
landlord won't sign a contract with me. my name isn't on the existing one...
and jacob doesn't want to be in a situation where he is spotlessly clean and tidy but ends up not getting all the deposit back because the old tenent did a sick on the floor one time
and ask for a donation
I'm not sure I get it?
If you signed a tenancy does he not need to see it out?
Im shit with these sort of things tho..
offer him a short-term loan, with his legs as collateral
it could be your first step into a highly lucrative business
when you moved out of your last place?
You spent it on beer didn't you.
I don't think it's unreasonable. You move somewhere, you pay a deposit. You move out, you get one back. Tenancy is always overlapped with groups of mates, you just have to be flexible about it. It will work in your favour one day.
he'll never see the money again and not be able to do a thing about it.
moving in and out of house shares for 10 years has made me pretty chilled about these things. I have been on the giving and receiving end of these things, as have most of my mates, and most people are honest. You're getting him out of the shit so he should pay up when the time comes.
I haven't got my deposit back from my old place and the landlord at this one WON'T accept a deposit from me because he won't sign a contract.
If the previous tenant can't get his money, that isn't my fault since I would quite happily pay and sign a contract but i'm not happy to rely on the reasonableness of total strangers...
I'll shut up now.
hope it works out!
Or are you still in Manchester?

It does amuse me that one of your selling points was a supermarket.
and has a Filmworks - it's round! like IMAX! and is amazing!
they're the places that were built to accommodate the influx of people because of the millenium dome.
20 minutes to the West End from there, though. My travelling time would remain roughly the same...
yeah it would be about the same
do you want my friend's contact details?
that the house has a lower ground floor and the garden is terraced onto one level and lower ground and one at ground. MAYBE.
My mum's house has the same.
to do what you want.
technically this shouldn't be your issue and should have been sorted out before you moved in.
the landord SHOULD sign a contract with you - he is obviously up to no good. i think you should call the citizens advice bureau, and find out exactly what your rights are.
tell them to all FUCK OFF!
