That new 'Cheese Grater' building they're putting up in the city

TheoGB [Edit] [Delete] 36 replies 11:14, 16 May '07

It's just across from my company's London office. I was wondering how they were going to remove the existing building and on Monday I found out:

Semi-awesome, I reckon. :D

  • I don't get it

    • it looks like

they're dismantling it floor by floor.

      which is pretty cool.

      • But from the bottom up

        which is even cooler.

        • totally

they've been taking a building behind my offices down from the top which confused the hell out of me when the view from our kitchen suddenly changed and I could see different buildings and the top of the london eye

    • Well...

The top half of the building is how it used to look all the way to the ground.

I've never seen them destroy an existing building like that, by removing the bottom floors like some sort of architectural Jenga.

I just thought it was a pretty cool picture.

      • Ah, Ok

I hadn't really noticed that. Good work.

  • It looks like a cheese grater

vaguely wedge-shaped and bigger at the bottom than the top. Rhomboid? Something like that.

      • It sort of does

but I think they just like to come up with vaguely appropriate names for buidings.

              • that is fantastic

                pure britishness as well.

so yeah we've designed this 8 legged tower but we can't really afford that anymore so are going to half the cost by halfing the number of legs, oh it doesn't work anymore :(

one of those big fir cones that you see in Scotland, before they open out.
