I've just giggled myself into submission.
Oh, haha... the last line is the pay off.
It's like Fox News in human form.
Sorry. And he may be easy to attack. But I still found this funny. HUMOUR ME.
I just mean he's sort of his own charicature now. I worry he's just evilly right wing because his publicist tells him that's what's paying for his lifestyle.
but it's not actually as funny as the man himself. This is hilarious - an oldie but a goodie:
SELF: It is a 400 page... I've read 200 pages of it and that is a 200 page recruiting leaflet for the BNP.
LITTLEJOHN: Well, you can't comment until you have read the other 200.
SELF: Why? Does it suddenly turn into Tolstoy?
LITTLEJOHN: No it doesn't turn into Tolstoy. I don't set out to be Tolstoy. It is a much more complex book than that.
I've just read that, and that bit made me laugh out loud.
and for the record, I don't much like Will Self either. But it's good to have that sort of debate on record :)
I'm trying not to giggle too loudly. I can just imagine Littlejohn becoming redder and redder and redder as this went on.
but that thing makes me laugh out loud EVERY TIME I READ IT!
I really wish I'd been in the room. And that all the discussions that are glossed over in brackets were on there too.
But 'Great Apes' is a really great book, and totally mind-bending too. 'How The Dead Live' isn't so great though.
SELF: Well I don't really regard him as a literary writer -
LITTLEJOHN: And I don't regard him as a journalist -
Who? Anyone not Richard Littlejohn?
SELF: What does it say on the passport - the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - that is actual latest constitutional formulation of what Britain is. I regard myself as a citizen of an archipelago that happens to be called Britain.
LITTLEJOHN: You are not still on heroin are you?
SELF: No and listen, I would thank you kindly not to insult me in that fashion.
If I could choose one person to rip that nasty piece of work to bits, it would be Will Self.
discussing littlejohns book
will self 'Ive read the first 200 pages'
littlejohn 'you should read the rest of it'
self 'why does it suddenly turn into tolstoy?'
later on littlejohn says
'its not like tolstoy, its more complex'
still funny though.
Hes an a*s*.
The worst thing about him is, he thinks he's clever and tries to make out that anyone cleverer than him is just 'tricky' and using language and logic to decieve people.
Littlejohn and melanie philips are quite scary actually. I reckon these are the sort of people that are the most insiduously damaging to humanity
"I'm not racist but..."
I doubt it's all that different.
The cartoon of him is worth 70p I'd say. And if anyone can help with 5 down on the Quick Crossword that'd be great.
Or is it a pastiche by the guardian?
Do you not read The Guardian?
Do you not vote Labour?
and liberal if I feel they deserve it.
though he may have been.
I went to the Emergency General Meeting my student union held and argued for him coming here, yet against his views. Now half the LGBT society think I'm a fascist.
I believe in freedom of speech as an absolute value is all.
Lesbian and gay basketball team?
I'd be pretty unhappy, I reckon.
I think there's one transvestite in the whole thing. There were loads of lesbians who I didn't know were lesbians until that day. It frightened me.
interesting to hear him speak.
I would find it interesting to have a logical debate with him, but I doubt if he will allow that a few questions or comments from the audiance at best I suspect, like question time.
I seriously dispair the people that people get to give provocative talks..............provocative in the sense that they must be a celebrity.......pathetic
sure have freedom of speech to represent the pertinant articulate voice of the opposit of what you believe in.
Why not fight for the right to have an incoherant drunk you pick up off the street...
Or for that matter me or someone else from DIS........why on earth fight to have a messy mind speak, a mind that you cannot even indulge in logical discourse with.
Sorry before you decide you want to 'accomodate littlejohn' I would like to be accomodated to be able to parade my bizarre views before a large audiance.
Little johns voice and opinion is paraded far and wide across this country without having been voted as a leader. He has undue influence and voice exposure as it is, why do you think freedom of speech is served by offering HIM MORE opportunity?
No you shouldnt ban him, but you shouldnt argue against your fellows over it......he'd love that.
Honestly its the old liberal paradox problem again, getting tied up in knots over points of principal whilst the forces of awfulness are just steaming full speed ahead.
I generally don't have time to read it all, I do the news, international news, any political stuff and then the economics /business stuff.
the back of the G2?
The idiot crossword. That I can't finish.
Neglected - visible from above
Are you sure it begins with O? Hmm.
Penultimate letter is 'E'. I think.
I'll find out tomorrow, unless anyone fancies calling the 60p a minute hotline.
But that doesn't fit :(
ANy more letters?!
I might start now.
Twenty-odd pages on smoking. I must have worked my way through most of a pack whilst reading it. I get easily influenced.
It appears to mention porn. I closed it down quickly.
Are you trying to seduce me?
yes I am. Do you want to come and see the thermals at water rats with me? I'll buy the first round of mojitos.
See you there!
Although particularly good is Perry Bible Fellowship on Fridays pbfcomics.com/
draws anything remotely funny or witty, or even something that makes sense, I'll send him a hamper.
the new hoff
dwarves falling off pavements. And "The stupid person's Jeremy Clarkson." The rest seemed unnecessary, you could just read his book.
richard littlejohn dies of something painful and embarrassing.
what a fucking cunt. he makes me ashamed to be british.
what an absolute cockmound.
i fully realise that he didn't write the article. it was the:
Tuesday May 15, 2007'
at the start that gave it away.
I especially likes the way he calls Cherie Blair "that woman" and calls The Daily Mail "my spiritual home."
He might in some fundamental way be an odious cunt, but he's a character - that you can't deny.
I hope he lives a long life.
Richard Littlejohn is a distillation of lowest common denominator little britisher politics and opinions garnered/refined over the years that he has spent in journalism, carefully placing his opinion in the middle of a large grouping of opinion, he uses his journalistic knowledge to capitalise on his 'market knowledge' of these opinion groupings to make himself sound like the voice of reason to these groupings.
That is not characterful in my opinion, it is
craven distillation of petty mindedness and meaness of spirit.
He deliberately allows himself to say stupid things because he knows that a large proportion of people also thinks this. He is despicable and shallow
I believe he wears some of those opinions because he knows that is what some others think. I believe that he 'positions' himself
he was well funny on the Newsnight debate thing they have on a Thursday night on BBC1 about a year or so ago. Can't really remember what he said, but it was funny.
Hail the voice of the suburbs! (as someone who has only ever lived in big cities, I find his views very distant). Surely people don't really take him that seriously?
'I DON'T smoke anymore, except on National No Smoking Day as a protest against [those] who want to control our lives.'
Richard Littlejohn, The Sun, March 1998
An argument in which it's impossible to pick a side!
I think he has a learning disability. You'd think that after years in "political journalism" he'd kinda start to understand things and realise that it's not just a case of "sending the immigrants back".
Really, he's actually a mentally ill man.
I went through the stage of breaking all stupid rules when I was at school, I was methodical and precise about it, there would have been little point in breakinf some of them if i wernt caught, I would not however, so anything imoral, I determined that no one should control me.....I was an immature twat......apparently you think this is classic huh?
Perhaps richard Littlejohn didnt even actually have a fag on that day just daid he had one eh?
listen just because someone says they are something and provides you with a few examples does not make them what they claim to be.
peoples burden of proof with him is lamentably low.
should stop finding him funny because he doesn't mean it?
at no point did I think that come 'National No Smoking Day' he bought 60 Marlborough Lights, had a big smoke up and blew his smoke in the face of Oxfam workers. Simialarly, if he says something like, 'whenever I see that woman (Cherie Blair) on the tv I feel physically sick," I don't actually think he's on the point of barfing when he sees her on the news.
He's a big fucking stupid twat of a man; unfortunately he exists because there are fuckloads of people out there with vaguely similar views. If Littlejohn never existed, there would be someone else with a different name filling the same position. He's filling the vacuum.
Anyway, like I said, classic Littlejohn.
he does atempt to use humour, and yes it doesnt matter whether one actually smokes a fag or states the principal.
However the below point about whether he would defend the splif smoking \/ is important and pertinant to his integrity of what he says and the way he says things, his contention that he ia a rough champion of freedom over nannying
(actually i am going out on a limb here because for all i know he may actually defend the right of people to spliff up) In which case feel free to hit some runs for littlejohns side
he is successful at filling tha space, if he wasnt then the people arounf those groupings of opinions might start to slide off into more rational thought, people like him can often focus and vindicate groups of opinion held as righteous by such idiotic unthinking members of the voting public as my mum and my gran.
The democracy in this country is not decided by rationality, but by unthinking illogical reason and general groupings/tendancies of perception. this is how politics is decided here, by the capturing of mass opinion.
Mass opinion is pandered to by dumbing down argument and fought for in the stupid opinion columns of newspapers. It is they that decide the matters that the parties fight it out on.
littlejohn is a prime example of someone who keeps this sort of thing going, protecting the stupid medias position and power.
I utterly detest him and my political self would want to cut my lips off if i ever found myself smiling at something that he said
to protest against peoples curtailed freedoms?
If not is it because he is
a) a hippocrit (he wants people to be controlled from doing this)
b) a coward (he'd be arrested)
your pluck in admiring littlejohn here.
Please notice though that i wont attack you, only your contention, because that is the way that people should argue.
Littlejohn seems to particularly enjoy identifying people he wants to attack.
My aim in arguing is with the ultimate aim of trying to unite everyone and to try to enable everyone to agree on a commonality, i have to have a go at those who actively seek to stop humanity from being more as one, people who benefit from division.
apart from bono
which means that even if he doesnt agree with his views he is probably a bit amused by him.
I am merely saying that i find the underlying issues too serious to find devisive simplistic opinion led political views to be humourous.
the only natural reaction is to laugh, surely? No point taking it seriously, otherwise we'd go mad and turn into vigilantes and hunt down and murder Rupert Murdoch.
NOTHING CAN STOP ME!
LORD BEAVERBROOK! DO YOU HEAR ME LORD BEAVERBROOK! YOU'RE NEXT!!!!
you've just thoroughly confused me, congratulations :)
for righteous physical anger and violence against him.
or who you were arguing with, or why.
he's got a learning disability. His ability to gauge the world around him and logically process information just isn't there.
I swear to God this man has mental problems. Probaly the fault of the gay/jewish/black/polish population if you asked him.... the mentalist.
I've never seen someone so hell bent of segregation and vindication of the population as this man. What a nasty git.
just laugh at him. Getting all angry is the sort of reaction he desires, right?
not what i think of him it matters what a large majority listening to HIS ideas on negativeness about humans think.
I dont mind getting upset, im always shouting at the tv or radio or newspapers
as a journalist he has a constant ear out for what he percieves to be his audiance it is probably part of his inherent nature now.
This kind of makes him worse, he serves not his own ignorance but his inner ideal of a bigoted audiance that he must serve, to me this reveals contempt for his audiance and fanbase too, he regards humans very poorly.
These sort of people are the worst they will always be ultimately cruel and unforgiving.
I don't fucking admire him, but I find him funny when he's on a Question Time panel. As in a 'laughing at him' sort of way.
Creakyknees, personally I don't have any moral objections to laughing at some prick who talks shit. You seem to have taken an opportunist ignorant bigot and constructed him in your head as a cosmological demon who wants nothing more than to do destroy civilisation. More likely, he has just realised s way to make a quick buck.
Lay off the pipe I say.
havent had any for ages.
Nah you are kind of right
I am just trying to emphasise that he is not as harmless as many will treat him. Casual isms are just as likely to cause problems as jackbooted isms in britain.
Im just ramming this plasterboard pin home with a ruddy great sledgehammer
(snot my fault, he makes me feel like it....it must be his fault)
It was funny.
"...What makes it worse is that while every council has its full quota of health and safety officers to protect dwarves from falling off the pavement..."
^ produced an audible giggle.
