Anyone been? Is it any good? It's in the Merchant City so it there a particular dress code?
the record shop/cafe/gig venue? if so, it's lovely in there. i had some brown rice and steamed vegetables when i went there with pretty vacant off of here. it was well tasty.
the shop didn't have the trencher album though.
A friend wants to go there tonight and I've never been.
Was just wondering about the dress code. Since it IS the merchant city and it IS a Friday night...
Its not in the merchant city, unless im confused. Its on the opposite side of the st enoch centre, down towards barrowlands, i.e far from trendy.
As long as you dont turn up wearing a tracksuit and white trainers, you'll be alright.
Though there might be a gig on so you could need a ticket
Sort of near the Merchant City then in the grand scale of things.
If there's a gig on then oh well, we'll find somewhere else.
I can't believe I'm taking pub advice from a 16 year old. :D
I only know it as a resteraunt/record shop, both of which it does well.
I must check those out as well at some point.
You wont need to dress well.
I had a veggie burger there. It was alright. The record shop is quite good though.
it's really nice - despite smelling of vegan farts. It's a casual place so I don't think you need to worry about dress code.
its alright, you don't get a crap crowd like in town, anyone go to built for the city last night??
They're both in town. Am I just totally misinterpreting you? Probably.
i was just putting a case across for 13th note!
Im scared to go down there alone when its dark, so its not really town.
i meant the crowd isnt like the town crowd!
but i wouldnt say it as rough as woodlands or going down great western road at night!
say it is as rough as woodlands and great western road at night!
but the lismore is good tho, i always get it wrong tho, should know it as my mate works in there but im no good with names!
I stayed in the Gorbals for 6 months and used to walk down that way every night but never had any touble
I hate going down there during teh day. They all look like they want to stab me with THEIR EYES.
is what I meant
i think its great really to be fair!
but people at the tron are neddier than your usual, no?
the fearing for my life really keeps me on my toes whenever I stray outside of the west end
but it sure is pretty.
Though oran mor is gradually getting better bands playing there. So it would mean I would only have to walk about 4 minutes to get there. Which would be awesome-o.
built for the city? or are all you to cool for the arches. too rough??
to pressure or death disco, or sorry there club nights. i once went to the club nme shit they do there and i was far to un cool for it so im never going back!!! ha.
i went to see metric there tho which was a good night,
i really want to go and see maria taylor on sunday in sleazys but i got an exam so i cant! but there so many good gigs comi ng up so its all good!
always during May? They always seem to schedule them right on the week I get all my exams!
And please, that part is about as rough as Buckingham Palace...
only a little further towards the river and you're in trouble
Once we saw a guy running around, bleeding from his ear, brandishing a big hook or something.
I once saw two guys injecting heroin at Clydeside. Ah, Glasgow. Such lovely sites to behold.
Clydeside's actually really nice during the summer, except for all the annoying drunk scene kids hanging about.
we were waiting down there to get into the barfly and some wee neds on crutches with a knife stole my friend's cider or something, so they spent the whole time trying to find the guy to fight him while I stood there nervous. Then my other friend KOed under the bridge for a while, then we almost got caught by the police.
All this and I didnt even get into to see iliketrains.
Some of my favourite gigs where in there!
that sounds like a good night! some guy died down beside the river, ot actually in the river, not to great like! you know where that boat is where cat power played, i never can remember the name, but yeah!
one of my friends were really drunk and tried to go in for a swim once. I actually had to drag him off the railing!
[/another rubbish anecdote]
I think this is the most succesful glasgow-centric thread ever.
Long live junkies, pies and knives.
i always see that guy also beside the bank, i always give him somethings!
I nce hung around with a Big Issue guy. He was cool. He was 40 and from Canada. He was trying to save up so he could go back to see his kids (or to get a drink, I'm not sure).
You know, Glasgow has a reputation for being really scummy and violent, but mostly everyone is really nice!
pees me off a bit, and have you ever had the lady that goes around saying she has no money and have a bit a paper saying things on it! and then there a guy who hangs aroung the uni library, he funny tho and also in the park! glasgow just full of greatest!
i love it tho! i wake everyday i think what a great city it is!
He thinks its the 50s, its great.
and everyone in my year goes
taking to many Es in so little space, silly billy!! but i actually met the guys friend in a club and we got chatting and yeah!
last night it was a joke! you could of taken anything in, if you with a lady then your fine, but a girl who looks like she 18 and you dont look like a kid which new shoes on, your get in
i get so bored with all the london twats going on how good it is and that, whoopd do for you!
and how I laugh at you perfumed ponce westenders crying about how rough the traditional artystudenty part of Glasgow is :) Apparently my area is getting tv programs made about how violent it is and there's things like 40 a side running battles between eastern europeans and neds, ya big jessies :p
beaten anyway, go eastern europeans!!!
i got work to do, that why im in, i thought i do some tonight but nah it 10 to 10 and in 40 mintues the peep show is on :(
It's just that bit at the end of Argyle Road, where the road slowly disintegrates into ned central. It's not that bad, really.
whenever i've been there it feels a damn sight safer than london. especially round by Mono.
the best car wash place ever.
you can get your car clean while also get some grams!
Man, we were so scared when we went there :o
its just glasgow neds have a distinct.... primalness about them which makes them absolutely terrifying.
a few weeks ago and I felt safer there than I do here half the time. Got back from Berlin about three weeks ago, went straight to gig from airport, left gig and walked down Sauchiehall St on a Saturday night. Some ned girl was walking down street on mobile phone, ned guy at corner asked her for a bj, she told him to fo, he shouted "fuckin' mad wae it". I was so glad to be home. I don't know if it's getting older but I sometimes feel there's something badly wrong with this city, the amount of freedom neds have to try to tarnish peoples optimum life experience
Mono was really good tonight. Me and my friends were the last customers in the place, quite enjoyed the atmosphere.
It's a pretty good wee bar stuck in the middle of nowhere.
I'll definitely be going back, was awesome!
"mono's pretty gash
in comparison to sleazies"
Back that up without saying 'me and my mates drink in Sleazys and it's got a pool table' because beyond that I can't see how Sleazys is so much better unless you live closer to it
you and your wood smoked gazelles suspended from hooks and still bleeding
Love love love.
Closest thing i've had to trouble was over the bridge, down one of the roads past the Carling Acad, when some wee ned kept asking for some cash. Meh.
Mono is fucking tight. That guy that used to work in Avalanche, that now works there is pretty rad. Good food as well. It's usually either there, 13Note for MA VEGGIES, or sleezies.
ie. it actually was more than half full. And had loads of good CDs, yeah!
It used to have 3 or 4 awesome people.
Now it's full of fat old people that know nothing :[
that I went into Avalanche and it was filled with Maori music... And Neutral Milk Hotel :/
And then I joined the Russian Army...
Scared the shit out of me!
Smartish I guess, but not too much. Lats time I was there I was wearing the clothes I'd had on all day at college, had paint all over me and stuff. I felt terrible.
I should read threads more carefully.
