if she's not dead.
some weirdos stealing her to make her their daughter?
they left the kids alone in the apartment while they went out for dinner?
you never let kids alone.
you NEVER let kids alone.
they really are stupid...
Her & her little brother and sister were left alone in the apartment while her parents went out to dinner with some friends.
I mean, would you leave 3 children under the age of 3 in your hotel room while you went out?
rule n°1 !
and if i left, i'd get a babysitter from the hotel.
that the parents are doctors...
erm no they don't. Not just in case someone steals the child but because they might get scared/ill/come looking for parents etc.
I'm sure it was mentioned that in Portugal leaving kids for that length of time could be prosecutable.
Hopefully they find her but she's probably dead.
'go out' to dinner. they were having dinner nearby in the apartment block.
which still isn't quite sensible but not as bad as implying they fucked off an left them all alone.
it's bad enough this family have potentially lost their daughter and are going through an ordeal without people blaming them. if the kid's been kidnapped then it's the kidnappers fault.
I would have stayed and sent my husband out, or vice versa.
That's my opinion anyways
but it is not at all unlikely that something more minor would happen.
so half an hour spells when unattended when it is quite probable something could happen.
thay can wake up and make many things dangerous while searching you and being very afraid.
So you stay with your kids all the time...
to do it for you !
But anyways, I feel bad now for saying something about their parenting skills.
or someone who couldn't have kids gone a bit mental.
but hope she isn't
i mean, if they don't find her soon. the alternatives are probably worse.
thats an awful thing to say. A possible alternative could be she is safe, but just being held.
she'd be better off dead, well, in my eyes, and her parents having her body - than never knowing. what ransom would she be held for? her parents don't seem that well off at all, so... what would be the point? most likely she's been sold off. horrific.
Is there a big slave/paedophile ring in the algarve?
Also, my parents are in the algarve at the minute. I doubt anyone will try and take them.
there are slave traders EVERYWHERE. it's been said that little blonde girls are worth a lot. she could easily have been taken. it happens every day all over the world, it's only so high profile because she's British.
I look at the world through rose tinted glasses.
Anyway, this isn't a nice subject, so I will stop here.
'us' what actually happens in the rest of the world (and really, on our own doorstep, we just ignore it), to children and families.
Its horrible to think it takes a situation like this for people to actually sit up and take notice of the dangers of what is actually going on around them, but its the only way people seem to learn.
it's awful as well that yes, people only give a shit when it's someone from 'their country' as such. which, i suppose is human nature. if it's far away and doesn't apparently immediately and directly affect you... 'oh it's so awful but... LALALALA'. i'm guilty of it too, i don't actively attempt to change the world in any way other than be snobby about music.
but thinking about it, sarky's probably right. There are some things worse than death. I feel sick
i think we get more than double the story here though.
the press know they won't get details about it but are filling their column inches with speculation and rumour.
i see your point, sarky, but i think there are alot of things i'd rather go through before death.
it shouldn't happen to her or her parents but it has and their only real option is to fully cooperate with the investigation.
I dont think we should speculate on this sort of thing, just hope shes found alive and well.
plus criticising the parents really doesn't help anybody
and they are probably thinking it over and over in their heads now.
Knowing me I probably got the story wrong.
public internet forum that people involved might read isnt the place to talk about this.
a little backward don't they?
I asked my parents about this, and they said that they'd only ever left their children in a hotel room once and they checked back every fifteen minutes (doesn't seem much point going out really, but anyway).
but doesn't child snatching happen a lot more often in this country than the spread out cases with massive media exposure would suggest. i mean, has this been focussed on by the media because of something 'newsworthy' about it above other snatchings/disappearances, or is child abduction really that rare?
surely any family which has their child abducted is going to contact as much of the media as they can
in the media a couple of years ago saying that missing people and kidnaps are quite common, but they usually don't put it in the media unless it's a pretty girl, a sporty boy, a young child taken in unusual circumstances etc. So anything that the audience will feel sorry for, eg, an attractive, slim, woman.
but not overly surprising
Actually quite a lot of kids go missing but some families just don't want to be plastered over the papers.
can he speak spanish?
The kidnappers came through the window - if they were quiet about it, the parents wouldn't have heard them come in anyway. You can't sleep in the same room as your kids every night "just in case". And it doesn't help to blame the parents, they're going through complete hell anyway.
Unless she's trapped in a small hotel room floating in a hellish parallel dimension existing outside our comprehension of time and space and the only way to get her back is for her father to travel the globe, hunting for 102 mystical artifacts, which bought together, will open up the room and let the kid return to our reality.
Then I care.
I actually haven't seen it. I just read a description in the TV guide when it was first shown and decided that any TV show that features a comb that can stop time is automatically the best and funniest TV show ever made.
alive and well, not interfered with in any way. I also hope she's taken away from her parents who were fucking stupid for leaving her and the other two children alone in the first place. A lot can happen in a place within half an hour. If this had been a single mother on holiday in Magaluf the media would be a lot less sympathetic.
I also want people to stop posting bulletins on myspace asking me to light a candle for her or that by reposting I might 'jog someone's memory'. Me doing that is not going to help find her. As for everyone having a go at the Portuguese police. Let them do their job. They have laws over there restricting the information they can release. Respect it and stop hindering them.
My folks left us to run about alone on holidays and apart from that one time where I was kidnapped and held captive in a cupboard for 7 years, nothing happened.
Are my parents fucking stupid?
As for people asking other people to light candles. They need lighting themselves. Griefwhores.
It's probably easy for me/anyone else to criticise the parents. I can only speak from experience though, and when I was a kid on holiday we either went with my parents, or at least one of them stayed with us. If those kids had been left at home in Britain whilst mum and dad went out for dinner and something had happened, they'd be the first to be arrested. There's a difference between running around on a sandy beach / hotel grounds in the middle of the afternoon and being left alone in the evening.
Couldn't agree more about the griefwhores though.
what do you recommend, that parents sit by their kids' beds every night until they reach 18? The kidnappers came through a window into the kids' room....the parents probably wouldn't have heard even if they were inside the apartment at the time.
but it's entirely different if they're snatched while the parents are in the apartment at the same time. They can't possibly be accused of neglect. If the complex provided childcare (which they did), they should have used the service. It smacks of complacency.
we've all lost our house keys
you can tell were priorities lie.
Sky news currently: banner: DAY 8 - Missing Magdeline. And a live interview with someone speculating what has happened etc.
BBC news: a live feed from Gordon brown making a statement about the labour leadership.
I swear sky news is just getting more and more like fox news. which is pretty worrying. Glamorising tragedies and missing out the news which actually effects peoples day to day life.
i mean 'DAY 8' what are people waiting for...'DAY 365'??
it is a terrible occurance, it is a tragedy and it is news worthy but it isn't as important as who will run the country next.
with murdoch news is a product to sell to consumers, rather than important events that affect everyone.
the future leader of their country?
or..... sensationalistic ARGH KILL SLAVE TRADER PAEDOPHILE news.
in truth there is space for both in the news.
but the thought of being the parents and coming accross this thread is horrifying.
i bet there are worse things on the bbc site and on other forums all around the place.
