in case further proof was needed.
have the basis for a hugely succesful football club.
Loyal fanbase = yes
Big stadium that sells out every week = yes
Money = yes
But he insists on hiring crap manager after crap manager. Give it 2 years and Shearer will be in charge.
If this talk of the release clause in Owen's contract is true then if I was a Toon supporter I'd be pelting him with rocks. Who pays £17million for someone and then writes a £9million release clause into his contract? Who pays £8million for the worst defender ever to play in the Premiership 6 months after Rangers sign him for nothing? Who pays £9million for Luque in the first place? As Rich says, Newcastle will go nowhere very fast whilst Shepherd remains chairman.
the only way Newcastle were able to get Owen is with that clause in their contract. They probably had the wistful hope that he'd score loads of goals, get them up there and he wouldn't want to move on. I think it was pretty obvious Owen was going there just for the money and was using it as a stop-gap before moving onto a Champions League team again. Messy.
Say what you want about Freddie Shepherd's business acumen, but he's a bloody handsome looking gentleman.
The £9m clause was related to league position, I think.
but actually have money.
so many bad decisions.
Boumsong isn't the worst defender the Premiership's ever seen - it's Titus Bramble.
Soon. Newcastle could do so much better with someone else in charge.
why have one good English striker sitting in your treatment room for the whole season when you can have another, slightly younger one?
Owen to Liverpool.
£9 million isn't decent money!
plenty of clubs will be after him presuming West Ham go down. I'm guessing with Allardyce coming in he'll want to bring in his Bolton henchmen (Davies, Pedersen, Tal, Diouf, etc) with him. I can't see it being pretty.
it's an £8million loss on him - for would looks like being 14 games. That's a pretty piss poor deal.
Newcastle have been screaming out for a manager that actually pays some attention to the back four. There's obviously a certain way that Newcastle fans expect their team to play, but there's never been a balance
Allardyce could well be the best thing to happen to that club in years
a lot of us have been laughing for the last decade or so.
what a cunt. And he'll never leave until he's forcibly removed or until he's dead :(
i think he will stay another season but he will go, he has always been professional, Sheppard is a bent as a butchers hook.
more fans than West Ham, Biscuit
cross over, i would have thought
I haven't hated Sunderland for a few years, all I've felt is pity, but you won't finish above us. If you do I'll hate you again, I'm that fickle.
You do realise you have the new Bryan Robson, right?
You totally do though.
Keane is clearly on a different planet to Bryan Robson. Nobody other than Boro fans rated him early on in his managerial career.
Liverpool need him back. If we get him, I'll be OVERDAMOON. A bit.
He belongs at a successful team again. He'll have a great season at a dogshit club. Injustice.
Wrighty, you're a Liverpool fan? For some reason this surprises me...
I'd had you down as a... anything but a Liverpool fan...
could have been about any number of issues. He's an idiot.
I sorta agree that Owen should show loyalty, but for Shepherd to go crying about it to the media is just a PR disaster.
This coming from a man who according to Roeder "doesn't speak to the media very often."
he's probably some sort of criminal/involved in corruption of some kind too. he seems the sort.
really tacky eastenders style gangsterisms.
