vhs suck so much balls
to get sucked by a VHS ?
you accidentally get your genitals stuck in the vcr, you accidentally push play, feels quite nice.
I didn't know...
Obviosuly we don't have the same 'games' in France and the UK.
because i can't just put them in and start watching, i have to wait for annoying credits, which are annoying, because they are credits, not content. which is annoying.
because you can't skip all the crap at the beginning of a DVD. Apart from that a DVD is better on every level.
Theyre nicer. They just look nicer on the screen. I spent most of my childhood watching videos and im not about to let that go.
i can still recognise vhs were shit, shitty quality, you always used to get a bit where the tape would chew. took forever to rewind/fast forward.
I find it hard to sit down and watch a dvd. Its almost TOO easy.
Note: anyone who disagrees with me on this, but also thinks vinyl is better than cds, will be shot.
I just prepared my vhs of pulp fiction for viewing and thought "Hey, this is a lot more fun than dvd"
Plus i like the picture. I dont know why, I just do.
DVDs aren't so no
quite rubbish effort.
But then you could just get a DVD recorder. Or Sky+
and sky is expensive
and DVD-RW discs aren't expensive these days.
that is unless you're talking about my vhs's of SPACED !!! they own.
especially seen as they take up a lot less room and don't get stuck inside your player when they're halfway through the process of ejecting themselves and then just kills the player for good ¬_¬...well they might but so far mine haven't.
I don't do DVD. They're for like, losers.
betamax > dvd
to act out puppet shows
and their shit analogue formats.. ;)
with these new fangled bikes everything just seems a bit too easy, with a penny farthing you really had to work it.
fuck off cunts, no-one cares
as if im trying to be fashionable or something.
I couldnt be cool if i tried. Seriously. Thats not "oh im so not cool that im cool". Im just not cool.
I can see why it would be good for Pulp fiction or something, but as a format, it's shit.
its good, for all the reasons people prefer vinyl to cd. But they always seem to get a lot more support...
for the same reasons people prefer vinyl to cd?
I.e more tactile etc
Vinyl can be considered better than CD because it contains far more sound information at a higher quality (in theory).
Also because the processes used to 'master' for CD tend to involve removing hiss which also loses part of the sound that adds to the record.
Conversely a VHS has FAR less dynamic range and detail than a DVD. Your comparison works with actual film compared to DVD but even then, the noise reduction at a visual level improves the experience* and makes it better.
* NOTE: This did fuck up on (I think) The Third Man or another old B&W Orson Welles picture where they removed the rain in the scene thinking it was noise. Idiots.
vhs detracts from the quality unlike vinyl. If youre watching a movie with amazing cinematograhy you want to be watching it in crystal clear quality not on some grainy vhs
it's similar to people preferring tape to vcr.
laserdisc to dvd would be a more accurate example.
tape to CD, even.
on a decent record player will sound as good as a cd pretty much. A brand new video won't be anywhere near the quality of a dvd.
Plus a lot of people like vinyl because you get really nice packaging and stuff that you don't get with a cd. The opposite is true of vhs/dvd. You used to get this massive ugly box with just the film on it whereas now you get a nice slim dvd case and alternate endings, different versions of the film, director's commentaries, interviews, documentaries etc etc. I don't see why anyone would prfer VHS to dvd.
Pretty much well good?
yes: I like old fashioned, crap format of media
everyone else: stop trying to appear cool and being wrong
yes: I hate you all
all have pros and cons. It's relative guy.
was that the vhs version of family guy?
was that a joke?
I don't even GET IT.
when you find one from around 1992 which has Gamesmaster taped on it. The adverts are hilarious as well.
boards of canada ness, quite clearly.
big, clunky, degrades really quickly, unreliable, uneconomical and just well crap
It's a 2.35:1 ratio film and was actually shot in Panavision anamorphic which implies that unlike a Super35 film (e.g. Fight Club or Lord of the Rings) there's no way to reframe it to include more picture vertically.
This means you're either watching a 2.35:1 letterboxed VHS image and so losing a LOT of resolution or losing the director's vision and loads of the picture.
Either way, VHS is positively NOT the medium with which to view Pulp Fiction.
Yes it is.
No problem. I do a good impression, don't I? Perfect punctuation, spelling, and paragraphing is important, and usually I like to finish off with a joke or a reference to 24.
Here comes the punchline.
What you've suggested here is the equivalent to claiming listening to music on an AM radio station is the best way to listen to it.
I dont love the film. In fact, I hate it. Better switch it off then.
There was no definite article in there.
DVDs = More chance of Original Aspect Ratio and this is almost always combined with anamorphic output.
This is why VHS is inferior. Films should be seen properly and DVD is all about making your home viewing closer to that.
I can still love it without having to watch it on dvd.
I don't care whether or not it is how tarantino intended it.
you just have to realise that it's better on DVD.
Also "I don't care whether or not it is how tarantino intended it." is pretty much backing up my point that you're doing the equivalent to suggesting all music sounds better through an AM radio.
I'd rather hear an album as close to how a band wanted it to sound whereas you're advocating altering an album to sound how YOU would like it sound. Surely the director's intention is half of the point?
cassette > cd. and i mean, mostly mixes.
if anyone has a go at me for being 'retro' or whatever the fuck all of your beef is, then i'll justify it tomorrow. bed time.
so I don't see anything good about a medium that slows down, speeds up, gets chewed, forces you to forward or backward at speed to get to where you want to be, removes higher frequencies and makes stuff sound bubbly.
there's a certain romance to vhs, it's kind of nice and associated with film geekery whereas the dvd is associated with yuppies and technology geeks.
take tarantino, the fact he worked in a video shop is a lot cooler than if he worked in a dvd shop.
are associated with film geekery
and cringing at yourself.
theres no romance, everyone knows their shit! and im sure most film buffs hate them, everyone hates them, thats why dvds were such a success
in 2001 when players cost £300+ and the DVD section in MVC took up two racks.
Actually it's funny. This was how people felt about CDs back in the day and now look at them :D
i remember when the second austin powers movie first came out on DVD, it was £25. ridiculous.
with their £17.99 DVD prices. :D
i remember when play used to sell region 1 discs. that was a while ago..
because you're old and forget things? there there, soon you'll have forgotten so much you won't be able to remember that you keep forgetting things, and then you'll have some peace.
