not even getting shortlisted would further reinforce my belief that i'm going to be in my job for a long, long time and that, really, i'm lucky to even have that. crushing!
you have to apply to lots to even get interviews. and then have a few interviews before you get the job.
unless you're super-good at applications and interviews. (yes I did just use the phrase 'super-good', I quite like it)
just give it a go dude, you have nothing to lose. not getting shortlisted is a bit poo but most people have been there and you get over it pretty quick.

this is how I work my relationships, it works out easier that way.
It's bad. Underlying suspicion and flippancy is not healthy. But then, trust is for those who enjoy getting smashed in the face, really.
that people you care about could leave/ die/ fuck you over at any given moment.
