That kid was mental because of the society he lived in, not what he watched.
Its obviously the context in which something is watched that makes it what it is, not just the context.
Will have at least something to say about it though..if they havent already that is.
then something else will happen and it'll be forgotten about.
Thankfully, the editor of the Daily Mail doesn't have the power to decide which films we watch.
the Mail played a pretty big hand in getting Cronenburg's Crash banned from some west end cinemas.
and even if the Mail's stance had an influence on Westminster Council's decision, they "banned" Crash because of its attributes as a film, not as a result of events in the news.
Natural Born Kilers then? The Mail flexed its muscles and helped keep that out of British cinemas after it was linked to events in the news. Im not trying to be difficult here, but you cant ignore their influence.
but we're still talking about cinema releases here. I think it's unlikely that a DVD/video release will be withdrawn from the shelves, even if there is a furore, because it's not something local councils have a direct say in.
To be honest, I don't even think there'll be a tabloid outcry over Oldboy. It's such a tangential connection that anyone who decries the film because of what happened at Virginia Tech will just look foolish.
It will probably slip by cos' its a foreign language film with subtitles and who watches them? one consolation we can take from this is at least the yanks might think twice about a U.S. remake with Bruce Willis.
still good though.
FEEL THE WEIGHT OF MY OPINION
but which of the other 2 wouldyou recommend more?
its by FAR the best.
the other two are pap in comparison
and Audition are both pretty hot if you've not seen 'em.
I got it free with tokens from the Mail on Sunday.
I knew they were behind it. Thanx for coming out Engels!
you dill. Nevermind! Please be sure to mention me in your Guardian column.
also, the guy posed with a hammer in a picture he took of himself.
It had shit all to do with it. Picture editors around the world saw the footage and immediately consulted Google Image Search for "Korean with gun to head".
The rest is histoire.
than the Mr. Brownstone allegations. Christ.
there's a nice picture of shooty dude brandishing a hammer in a remarkably similar fashion to one of the main promo pics for old boy...
Additionally: someone at wurk mentioned that the picture of shooty boy pointing a gun in each hand makes him look like Lara Croft and I'm inclined to agree, at the risk of sparking the mail off one one of their violence in computer game tips again...
and Tomb Raider's hardly the kind of game to inspire a killing spree.
I saw that picture. It doesn't even look like the promo shot from the film that it's supposed to be mimicking. Added to the fact that every one of the reports I've read making the link don't seem to have even made the most cursory check to see if the subject matter of the film even corresponds to what happened - which it doesn't, you can still colour me unconvinced.
Google search: Korean with hammer.
Lazy bullshit journalism.
is latin for bird flu...i'll be writing about you in tomorrows Guardian. Check the obituaries.
and finally ordered it from HMV.com on Monday night whilst drunk. Bit of a coincidence as it turns out.
