Take advantage of the dollar being raped by the pound and order one of these for around 22 quid:
Other than letting you run all kinds of homebrew software and (ahem) 'other' things, you can run this:
But you can play monkey island with the touchscreen!
(well, kinda. It's a bit fiddly at the moment, or so I've heard.)
Is it out/stable yet? That's the sweetest thing ever if so... so many top games...
I'm told that games are playable and that the port is pretty stable, but a bit awkward in places. I think the games work up to.. Full Throttle? That's not gonna happen, apparently.
That's the classic LucasArts games, then: Monkey Island 1-3, Indy 4, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max... fuck yeah. Just had a quick look: it doesn't do the Lua games yet, sadly (Monkey Island 4, Grim Fandango), but one day...
want to play Grim Fandango again. Sigh. Fantastically atmospheric.
I liked the bit where you looked at the moon in Rubacava: Manny would start reciting a poem, then the old sailor on the dock would join in. Didn't help complete the game or anything, but it was nice.
in the next few days, so I'll post some impressions in this thread when I've had a bit of a tinker if anyone's interested.
The comedy broken-english order confirmations and tracking updates from the website have been a nice bonus, too.
and my brother's giving me 33 games that he's *ahem* acquired and that card to use, woo!
I've only got the brain training game at the moment.
I need to play this. All I've got is Animal Crossing at the moment, and that makes you dumber; not smarter.
where do the games come from for the link you gave us?
Sorry for appearing thick!
but not when it's the only game at your disposal for months. And I still never caught all the fucking fish. Now I'm scared to go back to my town because all the animals will shout at me and my house will be full of cockroaches. Plus.. well, it was just kinda never the same after Alice left. She broke my heart, the koala bitch; she broke my heart.
You download individual homebrew games and apps from the developers; anything that needs ROM images of commercially available games, however, you'll have to go to.. seedier sources.
By which I mean bittorrent. Or the first page of a google search.
Melba is in my town.
She won the Green Thumb but I'm not bitter as I have her photo.
God, this is sad
in my town, again.
however, i enjoy walking over the cockroaches, shaking trees and wearing silly hats.
I'm going to drop back in there this evening. I had a nice little peach racket going to try and pay off my mortgage, if I remember correctly..
Did you guys have any lesbian eagles in your towns? Well.. she.. certainly seemed that way inclined, anyway.
in the sky? in a house? why haven't i seen one. i have only seen the odd flying saucer in the sky.
i am fed up of my mortgage. i have the biggest house. a nice hair cut. a boyfriend. and a pet frog. what more do i need...
she may have been a lesbian. She was massive and acted very standoffishly towards the town jocks (an elephant and a horse, obviously). Maybe my interpretation of the game is saying unpleasant things about my perceptions of lesbains, here.
I'm not particuarly bothered about upgrading my house; I just want that prick Tom Nook off my back. My earnings even paid for him to give his kids cushy jobs upstairs in the soft furnishings department. Suffice to say, the area around his shop is decorated with all kinds of offensive, raccoon-ist propaganda.
is alright really. i believe no one in animal crossing is half as frustrating as resetti. what a bastard.
a 70s year old to C+, it took a while. I hate the calculating ones.
"That is -2 years your real age isn't it?".
Proudest moment of my life.
might stop the thing from gathering dust any longer.
Same sort of thing, and it's brilliant. I got badly hooked on Advance Wars DS for ages, but that's behind me. More or less.
just a shame that the american amazon won't sell me a ds for £70.
Bastards. Same as apple I guess. How about ebay? You could even get a seller to mark down the cost to avoid customs charges..
that way: everyone is happy.
from Ebay and it came with the brain academy game and box etc, free postage £90.
The nice black one, not the girly pink one.
I've been playing around with this for a day or two and I'm really impressed.
In the box (and remember that thing is 22 quid delivered) you get:
the card itself (that plugs into the top slot of the DS)
a 1gb microSD card (have you seen these things? crazy tiny yo!)
a USB card reader (that allows to write to the microSD card using your PC)
a CD containg manuals and software (I didn't use it; got it off their website instead).
I had about 10 minutes to play with it when it arrived before I had to go out, and I managed to get some software working on it in that space of time. It's seriously simple.
You have to write two files from the CD (or the internet) to the card, and also copy on some games/MP3s/whatever. You just drag and drop them to the microSD card; transfer the card from your PC to the DS; turn it on.
2 Bad points:
Some homebrew software doesn't work. But it's still new, and it apparently takes a while for new devices to get support.
No support for GBA games.
Games work incredibly well on it, though. I still need to try ScummVM and converting some movies to watch on it.. not to mention the Kaoss pad emulator.
