Firstly, it wasn't a joke, it was me trying to help and at the same time bringing a new audience in to DiS. Sorry Sarkyfox. Quite simply I thought this was helping the band out and helping out DiS a little and as a trial for an idea of hosting more boards by our favourite bands it utterly backfired, partly because of the way I/we went about it but mostly because as an example which sets a precedent I can't see why anyone (be it, who knows, big ideas like running the Radiohead or Bloc Party boards) would want to do it now. This is also, as someone pointed out, is why I made a public reaction to it because DiS as a business has to operate on a much different level to ensure that we can keep the site running for all of you individuals who get to use this site for free. At least now I know that in theory the idea wouldn't work.
Secondly, a lot of what people have suggested were good ideas, however we didn't have much time and it isn't exactly something we wanted to spend any time of it, if we did, we wouldn't have done it. In fact I've spent more time responding to PM's and emails about it from "enraged" users.
Lastly, it did rather clearly say on the board introduction what it was and that it was a temporary thing. I really didn't think this was offend quite so many people nor did I anticipate the childish vitriol, the volumes of which meant maccabees fans didn't use the boards.
Matt has now hidden, rather than removed the boards and I hope, dear god, this saga is now over.
