I am curious as to atitudes to scent (re lynx threads)

Would you find it more flattering if someone said you smely nice, but you were doused with artificial scent that was brought, or if someone said you smelt nice but you had nothing on.

Surely it should be the latter, yet I can imagine that most women would take offense at this (unless the man saying it were very suave and handsome)

Do people therefore wear perfume to avoid this intimacy?
