Samuel Eto'o, Gigi Buffon/Scott Carson, Rafael Marquez.
One of them, along with Bono. You could get tevez on the cheap as well, which makes signing him that little bit better.
And you'll get Bono as part of the deal.
if i were rafa i'd go for an international class striker (bellamy and crotch? no.) and then maybe a second one.
just for you, lyle, i'd say sign bodmer too.
An entire new team in order to stay up. Due to the TV deal this may actually happen.
For Liverpool: Klose, Tevez, Joaquin, Sergio Ramos
12 Spanish/Argentine defenders, all currently under the age of 19.
Alves (who may very well cost the entire £40m but if he doesn' then...)
One out of: Robinho, Tevez, Huntelaar
Although I've heard whispers that either him or Fernando Torres will be going to United this summer.
The link has been there for too long but I think van Nistelrooy's presence was always stopping Utd. from making a serious bid. Apparently he wants out now (If you believe Aragones) and he seems to fit into their squad.
Huntelaar is just incredible. Utterly top class.
...too similar to Van Nistelrooy to work at United
Aaron Lennon or Shaun Wright-Philips, Michael Owen, Chris Kirkland.
I would, and we both know you would too.
Is that thing from the film with the kids and the pirate boat.
Kuyts face is enough to even make his mother weep...
GK: Given (Spend £0)
LB: Gareth Bale (£12m from Southampton - high price to beat competition)
RB: Luke Young (£3m from relegated Charlton)
DC: Steven Taylor (£0)
DC: Oguchi Onyewu (£3m - loan made permanent)
ML: Damien Duff (£0)
MR: James Milner (£0)
MC: Scott Parker (£0)
MC: Kieron Dyer (£0)
FC: Michael Owen (£0)
FC: Obafemi Martins (£0)
GK: Tim Krul (£0)
DR/MR: Nelson (£5m - Benfica)
DL/DC: Mikael Silvestre (<£1m - from Man Utd)
ML/MC: Charles N'Zogbia (£0m)
FC: Peter Crouch (£6m)
Competent manager (Priceless)
would still finish 11th.
zambrotta and pirlo.
is the last player we need.
hleb, rosicky, walcott, Ljungberg (even though we should sell him in the summer). We need a bit of pace up front and a replacement for Lehmann.
A new ground. Then a budget of £500,000 per season, more than 12 times our current.
he'd link up pretty well with Darragh Duffy.
Uh oh. Wrong thread.
GK Paul Smith - happy with at the minute
RB Micah Richards - £5-6 million
LB Alan Wright - happy with at the minute
CB Luke Chambers - happy with at the minute
CB Michael Dawson - £10 million
RM David Prutton - Happy with at the minute
CM Kevin Nolan - £10 million
CM Giles Barnes - £2-3 million (and it would piss those sheepshaggers off!)
LM Gareth Bale - £10 million
CF Grant Holt - happy with at the minute
CF David Nugent - £10 million
Where does the extra £10 million come from? Easy, we'd get a few bob for our (according to the media) star players Commons and Tyson.
I'd put money on this 11 storming the Championship next season.
You're undervaluing Richards, Barnes and Bale, and you're dreaming about Nolan, Nugent and Dawson.
Once again the trees fall victim to horrible delusions of grandeur.
can £10 million be an undervaluation (Bale) for a 17 year old that hasn't even played top flight football yet!
British and Young
you gave us £10 million for Bale I reckon we'd just about snap your hand off...
though, and it's all good and well using the word "potential" but we're still saying that about Wayne Rooney...
When people want to offer 12 for him.
Neither will he move to a League One side.
So I'd suggest that, as is becoming a pattern, you are fucked!
for now...come May 27th you'll be saying otherwise.
And since when was third an automatic spot?
Deluded, too, these trees.
can I give it to spurs so they can sign Nigel Quashie?
Ribery (12m and SHUT IT, Oleg. He'd be a class signing)
And a striker
Just because you have a good player, doesn't mean you should'nt get a potentially better player in. And besides, we're a bit short of cover at left back. Plus this is a hypothetical question. Arsenal will never have 40m to spend, so I'm being footless and fancy free with the cash. If we only had about 15m (which we will), I wouldn't go for him
and what do you base this on. Please don't be so rude to me, there is no need. Clichy and Traore are good enough to fill Left back for a long time.
It's a hypothetical question that will never happen
has the potential to be better than Clichy. Clichy has the potential to be one of the top 5 left backs in Europe.
before my career was ended prematurely by snakebite and Uni. So yes, you are right.
That wasn't the question at all. It was asking what I'd do if my club had an unrealistic amount of money to spend. And agree to disagree, as I think Bale probably does have the potential to be better than Clichy. He's already an established international player and he's 17 years old. And he's still got about four years progress to make before he can fairly be compared to Clichy
But, as I said, I think Clichy is a very good player. This season he looks to have added a whole new level of power and urgence to his game that wasn't there before
For Wales. It really doesn't count.
because Giggs played at 17 in a fairly decent welsh team. Bale is playing in a quite frankly rubbish Welsh side.
Doesn't mean he's not a good player though, does it?
who will undoubtedly become a premiership regular, but Clichy is far superior.
is already better than Cole (possibly). I think Bale is going to burn out by the time he's 19.
as much as it pains me to say. But give it a few years and who knows.
? Awful overrated joke of a footballer. Would make an interesting 6th member of Girls Aloud though.
who I would happily punch if I saw, but he is a fantastic left back. One of Englands only dependable players.
A regular England international with a pop star with is in trouble after being found out to be having an affair with a model. To make matters worse, the model has told the England star that she is pregnant and that she wants to keep the baby
THAT WAS A TABLOID RUMOUR
that can't be wor Ashley - he's a gayer in real life isn't he?
because in the England games I've seen he's been quite poor since Euro 2004.
he was one of the only players to do themselves justice at the world cup.
against Andorra, but on the whole, he is one of our more consistent players (much as I hate to say it). Peter Taylor thinks he's our only true World Class player.
he first came into both the Arsenal and England set-ups but obviously his taste for the highlife seems to have made his interest in football become secondary.
I think a good 12-17 million spent on Ribery would be brilliant money...he's pacy, a good passer and bags a few goals.
Also, I'd love Woodgate to come and give the defence some height and urgency.
Up front, well personally I'd love to have Trezeguet to come and play with his old pal Thierry for a year or so, if not I guess Tevez! A rumour I heard was that Andy Johnson has already agreed a deal with Arsenal, but I don't believe it.
Clichy vs Cole...I think Clichy is going to be better. A. He is quicker than Cole getting forward. B. He is stronger than Cole in the tackle. C. His passion to win seems greater than Cole's, certainly in an Arsenal shirt anyway. In Cole's favour he is a better crosser, but in most other aspects they are pretty equal.
you say Woodgate, I am a big fan. But is he better than Toure or Gallas? I think they will be amazing once they settle as centre back partners.
I'd personally like to see Toure replace Gilberto alongside Fabregas in the middle, he's got better pace than Gilberto and I think Toure is actually very good at dictating the pace of a game from midfield, much in the way Viera did. I think the opposition craps themselves when Toure runs at them from midfield, Portsmouth certainly did when Toure almost single-handedly brought the game back to 2-2.
So yeah my fantasy Arsenal first XVI would be:
Foster (as if but this is Fantasy), Eboue, Woodgate, Gallas, Clichy, Ribery, Fabregas, Toure, Rosicky, Henry, Trezeguet. Subs: Almunia (much classier than anyone gives him credit for), Djourou, Gilberto, Walcott, Tevez.
is such an underrated keeper. He will be our number one next season.
I see no problem with that argument at all, although he'd need a consistent defence in front of him.
Even Cech leaks goals when his back four changes week in, week out.
Where do you stand on Robin Van?
and hopefully will stay injury free next season. His main downfall was his lack of discipline, but now he has sorted that out. Expect a big season from him next season.
Everyone gets them...have we really had more this season than anyone else? Or are Thierry and Arsene using them as an excuse. I'd love Robin Van to come on a bit next year and score 20 goals, become a proficient scorer of ALL goals not just the spectacular. If we can get some good support from Adebayor, Walcott and Bendtner we should solve this year's lack of goals. I think the whole team needs to think more about shooting at sight, not thinking about the pass.
few years though. This summer I would like to see Baptista and Aliadiere go and for Bendtner and Vela to be recalled. I want 'the beast' as far away from my team as possible.
Has been more like a kitten for us this year, he's played cack. I think the thing with Vela is that he had to go out to Spain to get an EU passport. If he's done his time then yep, bring him back. Bad thing about Baptista going back to Madrid is that Reyes will come back to us and I never want to see the whining, diving, bastard in an Arsenal shirt ever again.
If we can get a couple of million for Aliadiere then good riddance.
Bendtner has been banging them in playing in the Championship, unfortunately it probably means he'll just be asked to go and do it again to prove it wasn't a flash-in-the-pan.
as he hates the london life.
Vela will wreak havoc on the premiership.
Can't rely on one centre back like.
run over your family or something?
ashley cole is quite consistent in an england shirt i reckon even though he is probably a bit of moneygrabbing cunt.
is consistently ok.
he doesn't seem to push on or be adventurous enough if you ask me, and i think if he was the whole shape of the team might be helped.
this would be weird, it would be too unsettling. Assuming wages are a factor and the fact that world class players aren't going to play in the Championship, however much money we've got.
Jerzy Dudek (2m)
Gary McSheffrey (6m)
Callum Davenport (2m)
Danny Shittu (5m)
Billy Sharp (3m)
Jason Koumas (4m)
Giles Barnes (5m)
Zoltan Gera (4m)
That's only 31m. Any more new players than that would be ridiculous.
my brain won't let me. Marcus Hall playing alongside Fabio Cannavaro or someone just won't work in my head.
Imagine Adebola and Ibrahimovic up front...
even if Dowie was given infinite money to buy a team of world superstars Adebola would keep his place. He absolutely LOVES him.
Firstly we finish our stadium.
Then we complete our fledgeling project and sign the entire Hungarian football team. Only Zoltan Gera will really cost much.
In fact, a whole new team would be nice, well a few of our players could stay. Getting rid of the portacabin which functions as a ticket office/club shop would be nice as well.
spend about 6m trying to get dean sinclair. He will be a very good player.
sinclair will definitely not be a good player.
The chances of us signing him would be so slim. Chelsea would want more then 6 million, Walcott went for 10 million and Sinclair looks as good as Walcott. Also Chelsea hardly need the money.
I bet if we got 40 million we still wouldn't break our 300K transfer record. I mean we wouldn't want the fans to get excited by showing ambition would we?
Dean Sinclair plays for Barnet!
and a new left winger, Bale looks likely.
actually, he is worth more than £40 million.
£40 million? Is this some kind of austerity measure? Are we still having rationing for Chrissakes?
Another decent central defender (maybe Woodgate), a decent striker.
Tell Robben to fuck off and get a winger who wants to play. Send Wright-Phillips back to Subbutteo and get our money back.
He could tear Man U apart seeing as the Neviller is out...
wasn't that good when he played against us. He made some runs but then was exposed by David 'midget sex god' Norris.
All these people who want their club to sign Bale, they usually have never seen him play! He's a load of hype.
i've not seen him, i meant more that it seems likely he'll be bought.
is very good, there is no doubt about that. In recent months (probably since playing Preston away) he has also been a mile off the pace. He absolutely terrorised Derby, and has turned in some top drawer performances. He definitely isn't playing as well now as he was earlier in the season, though it sounds like he had an off day at Plymouth (I wasn't there).
He isn't our player of the season, Chris Baird is. However, if people want to offer vast sums of money for our second best defender whilst leaving Baird with us, that is fine by me.
Bale right now has everything about him needed to be a superb player. He could go on to be the best left sided player of his generation, without doubt. However having also seen Theo Walcott scare the shit out of Championship teams at a young age it is also easy to see how he might just fall down a great big hole. Either way, as with Walcott, I'm glad to say that the only team I can see that will definitely gain from him either staying or going, is Saints
he can go forward at pace and beat players. His crossing is fantastic, as are his set-pieces. He really has had the best defenders in the Championship on the back foot.
His weakness right now seems to be that he hasn't really seemed up for it for the last couple of weeks. I think that is more burnout than attitude problem though. He is also better going forward than defending, although to be honest I can't think of any defending minus points. He can head, he can pass, he gets involved. Maybe if anything he is knocked off of the ball too easily, though he might improve on that as he gets older.
He does look like he fell out of Planet Of The Apes, though
It doesn't help that David Norris is a superb player...
He will be good, I've never doubted that, but after Walcott has fallen into a big hole I'd like to see Bale play a few seasons of Championship football, get himself established at club and country before making a big money move.
I've only seen Bale play on TV but he's always looked good, and he played well against the scum and Preston the other week, and there aren't many outstanding left-sided players around at the minute which I suppose is why his valuation is slightly over-exaggerated at present.
is definitely exaggerated on here, as I'm sure his contract is nearly up. He isn't going to cost as much as a lot of people on here seem to be suggesting
david villa, igor akinfeev, and aaron lennon (oooooh!).
condone having Lennon and Walcott in the same team...or having Lennon at Arsenal full stop. Villa would be a great goalscorer and would probably work well with Fabregas. Has anyone mentioned Jesus Navas yet?
Walcott is being groomed for a forward role anyway.
A decent striker Tevez, Bent, Huntelaar, Villa, Klose just one of them.
Scott Carson back from his loan.
Maybe a bit of cover at centre back Woodgate.
Two wingers. I don't know which ones though:(
then we don't need another CB, one of the multitude of kids we've got is bound to come good...
Jack Hobbs seems alright though I suppose. That Argentinian mad-man is absolute shit. I suppose Hyypia has another season in him just about.
as they're my second team.
Then I looked him up, discovered he is 29, and clicked abandon reply!
"At the beginning of March 2007, Ronaldo, as well as Manchester United, confirmed that they would be negotiating an extension to his current contract. The contract is reportedly worth £28 million and Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill has recently confirmed that the new deal could be up to 2012 and that "Every United fan can be reassured he won't be leaving this summer" putting an end to any credibility transfer speculation linking him to Spain had as it has been made clear from both parties that Cristiano does not want to leave Manchester United."
28 million then, to be precise.
But I have confidence in Jermaine Pennant and Mark Gonzales.
Gerrard and N'Zogbia.
