Its very nice of you all to come down to my home town of Woking and watch me play a gig at the Remix Bar.
jag jag ;0p
acknowledge your jag, but I will not be attending. :)
is the remix bar?
Once I got dragged to some launch night for some comedy metal thing, needless to say, it was rubbish.
Used to my local nightclub haunt called Vamps. Still a tiny underground dive tho.
Not sure about the comdey metal thing or where that would be?! How strange.
Sounds poo jab.
(sorry www.smokescreenband.com )
was named Schism or something. A girl at college made me go. This was at the peak of bad rap-metal as well...
hee hee no its def not that.
I think there might have been 3 or maybe 4 good looking girls there. And the bar staff were chumps.
rest assured remix will be full hotties and the bar staff are nice.
I was in Guildford last weekend and was pleasantly suprised at the local hit ratio.
I went out with a lass from Woking once. She now has a kid. Mentalist.
Guildford does have a high percentage of lovelies.
Woking does have a few mentals.
Guildford - as mentioned
Reading - generally pretty good, student standards seem to have slipped however. Better performance in warm weather.
Camberley - not too shabby, but a bit error prone
Basingstoke - A bit rough round the edges.
Farnborough - Lacks a bit of class, though 6th form college can temporarily improve form.
Woking - Inherently unstable
Bracknell - "My eyes, my eyes"
I would have to swap woking with camberley tho. Wrongens all over my face in camberley.
I lived in Bracknell for 13 years. <shudders>
seeing as I live there, but it's quite rare that i'll venture into town on a weekend. Just whatever you do, stay away from 'Envy'!
I got dragged there for a birthday once. It wasn't a nice experience.
to be honest any small town like woking or camberley on a weekend are pretty horrid.
Oh yes I have.
With the possible exception of Royale Sports (RIP), 'Starburger' and the odd bank robbery.
What scares me the most are groups of orange harpies prowling around wearing clothes that were designed for people slightly less rotund.
Fake tan + white lycra makes baby jesus cry.
Just out of interest was it your birthday on which you were dragged to said hellhole?
It was my mate Lauras and she knew a few people over that way. We started in weatherspoons and the police came in with a sniffer dog to check everyone in the pub.
However I must say your M&S / Tesco is rather special. I think I may go there at lunch and get lost.
at Christmas whilst looking to purchase a tin of biscuits.
Camberley's a bit odd at the moment, it's turning into a ghost town a little bit, but not as bad as Farnborough. Have you seen what they're planning to do with 'The Atrium'?
I haven't been there for a couple of months but when I do I'm not paying much attention to whats going on as i'm to busy trying to figure out what roundabout im on.
The traffic lights have been gone at the meadows roundabout since last Thursday! It's rubbish!
When I first learned to drive, successfully navigating the Meadows roundabout was a rite of passage. All the roads round here are rubbish- probs as the transport links to Camberley are shite.
Know of any decent music venues round Camberley way?
They started that stupid roundabout trend. Well there is always the Agincourt (dirty) but i thought there was a new place called the square bar (or something like that) who are putting on bands. Bit nicer.
I've never played there myself, but i've heard horrible things- i'm not sure what the capacity is, but apparently it'll never look full. And the sound's pretty boomy. I ended up there a couple of weekends ago, I'm sure the playlist hasn't changed in 5 years.
I walked past the square bar the other day- I've got a feeling they'd be into funk rock bands... I doubt we'd go down too well as a detuned scuzzy art punk crew.
once and it felt like a school hall. Load of shit basically. From what i can make out square bar takes middle of the road oasis types. I'd say really unless you try The Boiler Room or the star in Guildford it might have to be a trip to London which has left a sour taste in my mouth over the last two years.
nice venue, decent sound set up. Annoyed some chumps in the crowd as well so 'Burn the Nonce' got an extra 2 minutes of noise at the end especially.
Tumbly in Fboro's not bad, it seems to have changed recently. we had to pull out of a date their though due to bad aids, which was rubbish.
(we're at www.myspace.com/bluespring )
I've heard that someone's been putting on gigs at the football club in Camberley, i'm not sure who the promoter is though.
Agree about London, it seems like a lot of effort for no reward.
Haven't played there for sometime now.
Football club in Camberley?? Haven't heard that one before.
London has its ups and downs. This year we're staying local because its much more fun playing to bigger crowds.
(just addded you by the way)
What kind of ratings would Wokingham get?
I ask as I lived there for the first 10 years of my life. It can't be worse then Bracknell, right?
and it doesn't seem too bad, though maybe due to secretary types waiting for the train..
Though i'm not sure, I haven't been there since I played for the youth team.
Even locally we don't tend to draw much a crowd at the moment, since none of us are at college/uni it's a bit hard to drag people to see us! We don't really seem to fit in with the Reading scene at the moment either, we're a bit too oddball/noisy in places.
Including iLiKETRAiNS at that place in Camden and Trans Am at Bardens I believe?!
I really want to see Trans Am but I am committed to the iLT gig :) Plus Trans Am are playing that place in the bottom left hand corner of England in May.
