I didn't tip the cab driver (I was jetlagged and not with it at all) and he said something like "You won't get far in this city if you carry on like that"
If you're at a bar, I think you tip a dollar for every five or something? The bartender will usually give you a free round though, so its usually worth hanging about for a few.
Made me think of the opening scene in reservior dogs.
Those 'toilet attendants' who insist on handing you a paper towel really annoy me, as you can't really avoid em. Apart from wiping wet hands on yr jeans.
Taking a piss in the city has never been so expensive! Now when you take money out the bank you got to factor in how many pishes you plan to take during the night!!!
Really, with a passion. My blood sugar dropped really low when I was at the astoria and I was trying to find something sugary in my bag. I nearly passed out when one of them gave me a lolly. As I was just coming round she was like '2 quid please'
What's the extra quid for? Fuck off you fat bint.
But a lovely french girl gave me some chocolate & I was okay.
if they want more money they should just charge more. you should only tip people if they deserve it. it shouldn't be automatic otherwise it's just an extra charge.
I'll always give a tip, but my friend ordered one whilst I was round, and just paid the price of the pizza and seemed to think that was acceptable. I was appalled, frankly.
friendly Czech delivery guy. He can't help it if there were a lot of orders, so a wait in the kitchen - or if there was traffic or his car broke down or he stopped to let a line of ducks cross over.
There's a very big difference. There's no way I'd tip anyone for bringing me curry. In fact, I'd probably bolt all the doors and hide under the table. This guy is bringing PIZZA. You really ought to read more carefully, Theo.
because 99.9% of pizza delivery places deliver utter shit.
If I want a pizza that I don't buy from the FROZEN section of the supermarket why have Domino shitness when it's hardly a lot more for a nice Strada or Pizza Express?
Is the co-op frozen one. Save from that, delivery wins every time. And even without much money, there's always a good cheap local one around somewhere [takes some searching], where the prices aren't much higher than supermarket ones.
if they deliver the item exceptionally well. Like by doing a special dance when they arrive. or delivering it early, like before you've ordered it or whatever.
The normal minimum wage is just over $5/hour (though some states set it slightly higher). There is a different rate for waitresses and barstaff... just over $2/hr!
Working for a pound an hour means that most of the money they earn comes from tips.
So yes, tip generously in bars and restaurants. A minimum would be 20%, more if you get good service.
you tip
basically everyone.
for food, usually 15-20%. if you're buying a drink, just chuck a dollar on top.
although some places will automatically include it in the bill, so make sure to check for that...
when I arrived in LA
I didn't tip the cab driver (I was jetlagged and not with it at all) and he said something like "You won't get far in this city if you carry on like that"
But yeah, everyone pretty much.
Mr Pink
i didn't tip a cab driver in san francisco
because he was leering and shouting at women while we were sat at traffic lights.
fag
.
If you're at a bar, I think you tip a dollar for every five or something? The bartender will usually give you a free round though, so its usually worth hanging about for a few.
not to mention
the hilarious pot-luck random sized shots that grow and grow as you tip
i was going to say this
spirit measures are basically random, and you get more if you tip consistently..
^
i love this. i actually wouldn't mind tipping if they would do it here.
mmm, gin & lemonade, whiskey & coke, rum & coke with 1/3 alcohol in the glass :)
that's crazy!
why would they do such a generous thing?
it's the way their service culture works
the whole point of having a tipping culture is the idea that it makes people work harder.
most people working in bar / restaurant jobs make minimum wage, which can be as low as about £3/hour in certain places..
£3ph? Ouch.
Made me think of the opening scene in reservior dogs.
Those 'toilet attendants' who insist on handing you a paper towel really annoy me, as you can't really avoid em. Apart from wiping wet hands on yr jeans.
They piss me off
something rotten as well.
Taking a piss in the city has never been so expensive! Now when you take money out the bank you got to factor in how many pishes you plan to take during the night!!!
i just ignore them
i don't help to wash my hands.
point!
Would it be polite
to piss on their shoes if you had no change?
you could always offer to look after
thier stand so they could take a pish.
then charge the fuck out of them on return.
I hate those.
Really, with a passion. My blood sugar dropped really low when I was at the astoria and I was trying to find something sugary in my bag. I nearly passed out when one of them gave me a lolly. As I was just coming round she was like '2 quid please'

But a lovely french girl gave me some chocolate & I was okay.
that's such crap
if they want more money they should just charge more. you should only tip people if they deserve it. it shouldn't be automatic otherwise it's just an extra charge.
but giving the bar itself more money
wouldn't mean that the waiters necessarily earned any more.
do you tip in mcdonalds over there?
no
you don't tip in fast food places.
odd things make me laugh
this had me laughing for about ten minutes... i guess it was the stereotypical arrangements i had in my head
Anyone else have
"French kissing in the USA" in their head now? Just me? Oh.
not just you! :)
I knew I could rely
on you!
no i have born in the usa
What's the general consensus on tipping
pizza delivery people? Here, I mean.
I'll always give a tip, but my friend ordered one whilst I was round, and just paid the price of the pizza and seemed to think that was acceptable. I was appalled, frankly.
But it's rarely the fault of your
friendly Czech delivery guy. He can't help it if there were a lot of orders, so a wait in the kitchen - or if there was traffic or his car broke down or he stopped to let a line of ducks cross over.
but
why should he get extra money?
When I order a pizza
and it arrives on time and is hot.
That is the service I have paid for.
I will not tip.
because they are
probably on minimum wage. or getting paid per delivery they make...
i've never tipped
a delivery person. are you meant to?
I never do
Really?
Well, at least they probably like me...
i dont tip anyone
not even hookers
it's not ethical...
I don't
It's surely the service you expect, after all. They must factor in all that in what they charge you to deliver pizza/curry?
I expect to be served my food at a restaurant though
It's not much different?
Yes
but they can serve you attentively and quickly or they can be a bit crap not really bother.
The guy with the curry arrives in the time you expected, i.e. 30-40 mins so that's okay.
No, I'm talking about PIZZA
There's a very big difference. There's no way I'd tip anyone for bringing me curry. In fact, I'd probably bolt all the doors and hide under the table. This guy is bringing PIZZA. You really ought to read more carefully, Theo.
Sorry you're right. I'd NEVER tip for PIZZA
because 99.9% of pizza delivery places deliver utter shit.
If I want a pizza that I don't buy from the FROZEN section of the supermarket why have Domino shitness when it's hardly a lot more for a nice Strada or Pizza Express?
i got one of the supermarket
pizza express pizzas for half price 'cause it was just out date (sorry lucy). it was DELISH.
The only frozen pizza I've considered "good"
Is the co-op frozen one. Save from that, delivery wins every time. And even without much money, there's always a good cheap local one around somewhere [takes some searching], where the prices aren't much higher than supermarket ones.
it wasn't frozen
it was from the chiller cabinet. different stuff.
I meant supermarket
I quite clearly meant "supermarket".
sainsburys stuffed crust cheese feast pizzas
are amazing.
Stuffed crusts are the most evil
Pizza-related invention EVER.
:(
i don't like you anymore.
i thought you
only 'made' your own pizzas?
no, i "mostly" "make" my own pizza.
You're totally wrong
79.9% of pizza delivery places are ace.
yeah
it's a different sort of pizza to supermarket stuff for a different type of mood.
i don't have takeaway pizza much these days though.
and they also
don't come back and check to see if you need anymore etc..
only
if they deliver the item exceptionally well. Like by doing a special dance when they arrive. or delivering it early, like before you've ordered it or whatever.
If the pizza costs 18.50
It better be fucking good.
I'm reluctant to spend
£5 on a pizza.
I tip if they're on time or early
and I'll tip taxi drivers who drive well and aren't rude.
I always tip in restaurants.. I tip more if I enjoy the meal and/or have had good service. I don't eat out much though.
i always
tip delivery people...
... OFF THEIR BIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no really. i give them money. only like 50p though.
I've never tipped pizza deilverers
never will do. Like most things in this country, it's included in the price. That's why you can nearly always get a better deal if you collect it.
I gave a tramp a fiver once
because he told some funny jokes.
but apparently
me offering him money to dance was "demaning"..
*demeaning
*deemeeeeeningz
there's a tramp by rock city
Who sings to you & then demands money.
Grrr!
bf
everyone? That's fucking appalling
Tip- vote better next time and I may give you a small sum of money as a token of my esteem
this:
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/1793881#r1793954
different culture, innit.
In the US
The normal minimum wage is just over $5/hour (though some states set it slightly higher). There is a different rate for waitresses and barstaff... just over $2/hr!
Working for a pound an hour means that most of the money they earn comes from tips.
So yes, tip generously in bars and restaurants. A minimum would be 20%, more if you get good service.
Haven't you seen Resevoir Dogs man?
Don't tip!!
I joke, Coastal gives solid advice ^^
When I was in NY
I only tipped when they had done a good job. I was totally confused by it all, for example Subway you don't tip but you tip in a cafe... blah blaaah
