the joys of temping
whats the most YOU'VE been paid to do very very little?
to hang around a disused hospital all day.
i was an extra, who was not used. I just played gameboy and listened to my sony walkman (of the tape variety)
working at Reading festival in 2002. I was supposed to work 3 7 hour shifts, but only ended up working 5 hours on sunday night. So i got paid about £50 for that shift, plus i got a free wristband for the whole weekend...which was nice.
40 quid a day + food for just sitting around, being on tv. Plus the added bonus of being on Xtra like, 20 times
for TV licensing. we had 3 paid days training (so 24hrs worth) for what was expected to be a massive month-long service.
when it came down to it, i worked 3 days doing the actual job. they had about 1% of the calls they were expecting, and i took maybe 10 phone calls across three days. it was ace.
either that or when i worked nights - i got 25% on top of my standard salary, could watch TV / dick around on the internet, and had to take an average of 6 phonecalls in an 8hr shift.
watching 6 tour reps doing a multiple choice exam for half an hour, getting paid for 4 hours, ace.
to participate in a seance. I did very little apart from be scared.
and say whether or not it was tasty. That was a good day!
and I got to keep 2 bottles of it! Man, that was a good day! You should have been there.
£30 for an hours work helping to take down the PA and a Northern Ireland vs Wales football match at Windsor Park in Belfast.
to do very little !
to stay alive...
best job ever - I got paid £8 per hour to answer the phones late at night for Radio 2. Chatting to friendly/mad people, meeting some bands, finishing off the bands' food when they'd gone,. free taxi home. Brilliant.
But it would be a bit flippant and wrong.
while I was the recipient of a £2k grant to fly out to New York and carry out a staring contest, there was much more to it than just doing the staring.
big train style? are you being serious?
arts council is a national disgrace, based on the list of things they fund on their website...
If you are, then you are national disgrace yourself.
are justifiable then, are they?
got £55 to sit in the sun for 5 hours counting the paucity of traffic on a roundabout in aberystwyth.
for 2½ years full/part time, which after the first 3 months was spent mainly drinking tea, reading the papers and playing mahjonng, i got paid £5 or £6 an hour for this too. Those were happy days.
I get £100 cash a month to look after a few websites, some months i do absolutely fuck all.
for a 20 minute DJ set.
were paid a hundred quid each to go round to off licenses and bars to see if they'd serve us alcohol, for a newspaper report on underage drinking.
ive probably been paid more per minute than i did today - i was paid £2000 to sit and breathe in drugs for 10 minutes a day for a month.
this thread was really just a ploy to get people to ask me about my job and show some CARE
moving chairs. we used to sit on chairs to see how much we could get paid for sitting down. at £8 an hour, out of three weeks we prob spent half of it sitting trying to earn by sitting down
to deliver leaflets for an hour.
to give out post & pencils and do the odd bit of filing. and write/sub on DiS all day.
good times, they were.
eventually the absurdity of my situation got to me, though, and i quit in a flurry of shame, self-loathing and yearning to Contribute To The World.
is that that job your refering to was in the same building as the "job" that i'm refering to.
and youre right - it does look a bit like the building i live in.
methdodaire got paid 2000 for playing 3 songs at brixton academy. you do the math, but it was a lot of money for not doing much.
i'm glad we didnt make it....
faithless, gene, those mad guys form brixton with the cowboy hats.
oh, and the world champion air guitarists!
for japanese TV
On aggregate, that's just about minimum wage.
Or to put it another way, I'm sitting here on DiS, scratching my balls and eating a posh sandwich and getting paid more than that.
I got paid 45 pounds for ten minutes of eating sandwiches.
3 years i got paid to watch the latest in good movies when i worked at a good cinema. but i didn't get paid much and sometimes i had to rip tickets too. on th eplus side i got to see some good films. planet of the cannibals anyone?
£120- being an extra when I wasn't used. I'm not really sure how you other guys managed to only get £25 and £40 for doing it, being as the daily union rate is £70...
...for letting a lamb company use my song an advert..... yes i sold my soul.... it was that easy (i am very poor though).
listen to music, get free CDs, and very long lunch breaks. It's not half bad.
to dj for 3 hours
