Take a screw driver. Unscrew all the screws in the back of your computer. The case should now lift off revealing the chewy centre of your PC. Using the same screwdriver, unscrew everything you can find inside your PC. Also, anything inside the computer that can be unplugged - unplug it.
Then... I forgot where I was going with this. Just do all the above.

Try:
Right click my computer
Select Properties
Select the Hardware tab
Select 'Device Manager'
Check if there's an entry under Sound, video and game controllers and see what's there.
Check for a little speaker icon in the system tray and make sure the menu for it doesn't have 'Mute' checked.
Make sure you've connected speakers/headphones to the right port?

Have you checked the advanced volume control to make sure you've turned everything up?
What are you trying to play? How many different sources of sound have you tried?
