  • um

    what?
you want to magic up the information thats been lost by compressing it to 160kbps?
why do you want it at a higher quality?

You can only degrade file quality. Technically, you can save the file to a higher bitrate, but the quality will stay the same.

    • possibly worse?

      alcxxk @Stealthy | 20 Mar '07, 20:59 | X
    • it'll get worse, surely?

if you convert it to a .wav, and then recompress it you'll surely lose more data?

    • its possible to make a file thats at 160

suddenly be at whatever rate you want, but it wont achieve anything

  • you cant

unless you have the source and re rip it i.e cd
Re-encoding it just makes it worse

      • Eh?

You said you wanted to improve the quality of an mp3
cds dont have mp3s on them

        just change your encoding settings

        yes_ @dan_thw | 20 Mar '07, 21:02 | X
        • sorry

its a recording of my band i need to send to someone - i have the master CD.

I just said it wrong in the title, and slightly misunderstood how it works!

Don't discriminate against me for being an idiot.

          Bring back cassettes!

  • change the rip settings on whatever you are ripping from.

to make it rip it at a higher quality. if you're using itunes for example, you go to preferences.
