Their coffee is bad enough
It was only a matter of time.
They do instore CD sales, anyhow.. point of sale crap. Rubbish old Diana Ross compilations. CRAP.
they don't have their own labels.
Does this mean a thousand more drippy singer-songwriters getting airplay?
I'm going to smash up my nearest Starbucks just in case.
they will be on the same road after all.
There's loads around here. I suspect if I go on holiday, my office will be a Starbucks by the time I get back.
for the banana and caramel frappucino things...
then I took some of these
AND I'M TOTALLY WIRED, TOTALLY WIRED
This may be a daft question, but if everyone hates Starbucks so much, how come they are always full?
Is it just the coffee equivalent of never admitting to owning a Northern Uproar album, or something?
i know plenty of people that go in there. including myself if i'm in the mood. i know it's wrong, but if i want a frapp, i'm getting a damned frapp.
coffee tastes like sweaty tights (and before you ask, no I haven't, you can just tell). I don't like Starbucks cos their coffee tastes rank.
I don't like coffee, or overpriced fruitjuice or crap sandwiches or pastry. A lot of people in my office do go tho, it's a safe option, they know what they're gonna get in Starbucks Vs the cafe next door.
paying more than a pound for a cup of tea isn't me
It's the coffee equivalent of not owning a Dido album. Very few people on here will, but it's aimed at a different demographic.
it's overpriced, but their coffee is nice and good quality. I hate it when people say 'independent coffee shops have much better coffee'. I worked for years in an independent coffee shop which did have better coffee, because it roasted the beans on the premises. But there are only a handful of these in the country. Most independent coffee shops just make shitty filter coffee.
The globalisation issue is different, of course, which may be why other people choose not to shop there. But you really can't fault them on the coffee.
are necessarily better, but Costa sure is.
Costa is better than starbucks?
As I said, French roast coffee = s**t
Italian = <3
it's so .... designed for airport lounges.
nero is nice...
for airport lounges :p
is wipe-clean and ergonomic.
I can and I will. It's weak, watery and bland. Coffees for people who don't really like coffee, but want a hot sweet coffee-flavoured milk drink. Fair enough if that's what you're after, but independents aside, Costa, Nero and even Pret have better coffee.
It smells nice I suppose..
let's make him our leader
It's worse than Costa and than Pret (who are cheaper comparatively).
BUT THEY HAVE THAT FUCKING CHEESECAKE!
their cheesecake is the sex
Lets make HIM our leader
i've never had the starbucks one.
let's not have leaders at all
but there's plenty of good things about Pret.
The Starbucks Blueberry Cheesecake is also SEX!
you like cheesecake, we get it.
Also other cheesecakes.
and decaff now. So I suppose I'm not an authority on it. But I think it's nice, and far better than most independent places.
Caffe Nero is the best, but some bastards have made them all non smoking! The smokyness was why I liked it :(
I'm glad it's non-smokey though, I like my lungs.
I had the best coffee in the world ever the other day at Borough Market. And then some olives. Oh man.
Have you heard about the new viaduct though? Actually, I'll start a new thread...
I read somewhere that whoever is in charge of the market thinks it won't be a problem.
Cafe Vergano 1882 or whatever it's called on Charing Cross Road. MAN! Fucking amazing.
as I'm a big fan of independent caffs, but surely the point of Starbucks is that it's a chain? A lot of people like recognisable places to drink coffee - same as going to Macdonalds for a burger or Garfunkels for a sit-down meal - because no matter where you are, you knnow what you're getting.
I was reading about it the other day, and the semi-official residents' campaign website seems both confusing and confused. Got some good maps though. I'll dig out the email.
it said that the market themselves aren't supporting this petition.
Nero is good, Costa is easily the worst.... coffee wise it is slightly worse than starbucks but the actually cafés themselves are just horrible places to sit in...
so it doesn't really affect my assessment. I'd say Costa's coffee was better than Starbucks', though.
there's an awful lot in it ... but i like to sit down and read the paper n that...
And they give a shit amount and it's usually 50% froth. And it's always dirty, stuff doesn't get cleared away. I hate it so much.
Are we talking lattes or cappuccinos here?
their tea is fucking disgusting.
for about the first time in a million, zillion years the other weekend. i was walking home from somewhere i'd spent the night, and wanted some breakfast and a hot chocolate, and one of the ones near chancery lane station was open despite it being TOTALLY dead on a sunday.
it was a crap hot chocolate, as well.
how much does coffee cost there? Isn't it like £2.50 a cup? Why would you pay that?
In other news: Tesco has started selling bags of starbucks coffee. Urgh.
but their blueberry cheesecake and (in the summer) banana and caramel frappuccinos are fucking AMAZING.
Sometimes I have to go in for a slice of the cheesecake.
is a cunt
