what do i buy?
The Old Man And The Sea is really great.
I loved For Whom The Bells Toll when I was younger. I like Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises. I wouldn't recommend Death In The Afternoon - snorefest, unless you're into bullfighting from the 30's, that is.
and J D Salinger.
Orwell's essays and the Mao biography
but i want help on hemingway!
His essays are generally much better than his novels. Plus there's so many of them. Coming Up For Air is probably his best novel, though.
I suppose 1984, Animal Farm and CUFA are all pretty close. Burmese Days and Keep the Aspidistra Flying are so boring.
Its boring! Could (should) have been an essay. Shooting an Elephant is a good un.
I must be boring
probably you're not. There's an essay of his called The Inevitability of Catastrophic Gradualism (or somthing like that), its amazing.
and have abused him to much.
so logical to go onto their heroes, no?
If you want someone who's really influenced Salinger, get hold of some of Ring Lardner's short stories. Same kind of economy in the storytelling.
I'm literature-d out
Next time Summers is down I'll be giving him a real-time real-life literary beatdown, though.
I'm off anyhow. See a select few of you later.
was this debate you talk of?
and for the record: CitR is ace.
