This is really interesting and quite cool.
I knew it would be this. Was in the paper the other day. Made me feel a bit weird for some doubtless psychosomatic reason.
which suggested that early world maps, written by western European travelers, were distorted to make Europe seem bigger and thus more significant compared to the western world. And those are the maps we still use today because it would be too weird if the map were to be changed to the correct scale.
Smell the conspiracy.
It's actually due to the limits of representing the curvature of the earth on a flat surface. Various projections will give slightly different results.
how India stands apart from it's neighbours. Were they having a crazy house party that night?
though the extreme western point of what Hurru though is India is Pakistan.
The dark bit is the Baluchistan Desert in Western Pakistan and Eastern Iran.
