Poor security at gigs

olegrich [Edit] [Delete] 18 replies 15:08, 1 March '07

Last night I strolled into ULU carrying an umbrella. I expected to be told that I had to put it in the cloakroom, and had even took out change to do so. But when no such instruction was forthcoming, I decided to keep it on me.

Looking back, how much trouble could you cause with an umbrella at a gig! It's lucky for ULU that I am a clear headed and pascifistic guy. In the wrong hands it could have been lethal.

On the other hand, a friend of mine had an apple confiscated at a gig once, which I thought was ridiculous. I mean, why throw an apple at Saint Etienne?

You can share poor or over the top security stories below.

        • I left my coat in a cloakroom once

then lost the ticket. I waited till the end and described my coat including a rip in the sleeve, the contents of the pockets and what number it was. They still would not give me it back and were very rude about it. The next day I phoned to complain. They had to send me my coat back and pay for the postage. Yay!

        • over the top:

the first time i went to the islington shopping centre academy (seafood + klang + distophia, may 2004), the security guards took it upon themselves to shine torches directly at anyone near the front trying to take photos. one of them then threatened me when i told him i thought they were being ridiculous.
