I've just

junkstaposition [Edit] [Delete] 31 replies 20:01, 21 February '07

corked a bottle of wine

:'(

My beatiful, pink nectar has been (potentially) ruined.

Will little bits of cork do me any damage?

I think i've got rid of most of it

  • but shirley if the cork broke in half

and parts of it ended up in the wine, shouldn't that be classed as corking too?

    Iopenedthebottleofwinereallybadlyandnowthereiscorkinmywineing isn't as catchy

    • The drinking age for beer and wine should be 16

      spirits 18.

Its a lie that your wine will be ruined, but do expect a little rubberiness.

      • But our whole culture here in the UK is to drink irresponsibly

Keep it at 18, that's what I say. It's different in other countries, as the kids are raised without alcohol being 'taboo' and so it's not a big deal for them to go out and get smashed

        dove_from_above @Alex_b | 21 Feb '07, 20:12 | X
        • it's only "taboo"

due to the drinking age. the culture is caused by it being 18.

          • Exactly

You can cite our relatively high drinking age as a reason why people treat alcohol so irresponsibly, but the fact is that they do. To lower the drinking age would be to welcome a lot more kids into the murky world of stomach pumping

If underage kids want to drink, they will. No need to change it

            dove_from_above @Anthonus | 21 Feb '07, 20:54 | X
          • Have you seen the club culture in berlin?

            where thats basically the law?

The thing is, when you get hold of booze underage, you dont know when youll get it again, so you neck it. This develops a nasty early pattern in many.

          • i've seen plenty of kids in france

            drink ridiculously irresponsibly.

          • is it real cork?

i haven't drunk a bottle or wine with real cork for ages.

            harru | 21 Feb '07, 20:17 | X
            • yep

              real cork.

Wouldn't have happened with plastic :(

I should just buy lambrini. Screw top (Y)

              junkstaposition @harru | 21 Feb '07, 20:20 | X
              • A sommelier once told me

that cork tops are best as it lets in a certain amount of oxygen to let the wine 'breathe', where as screw tops/plastic ones don't.

I think that's the only thing i know about wine

                junkstaposition @BONOADAMCLAYTONEDGE | 21 Feb '07, 20:31 | X
                • just drink it.

                  fallingdown | 21 Feb '07, 20:22 | X
                • well done

they're not using proper corks as much these days, so they're having to cut down a lot of cork trees to get rid of the surplus. I have therefore taken it upon myself to drink as much wine with proper corks as possible.
im saving the planet in my own subtle way :D
