Spencer Perceval was the only British Prime Minister to be assassinated.
The Tory PM was unpopular because of the effect his restrictions on foreign trade had on British businesses, and in 1812 he was shot dead in the lobby of the House of Commons by a merchant named John Bellingham. It looked something like this:
