Ended ten years ago today. Bloody hell, I suddenly feel old.
that was the last song, wasnt it. I used to tape all their shows, I had loads and then threw them out one day in a huff.
on tape, along with lots prior to that
i remember the last show. The answer phone message from Elbow had me in hysterics. Thom Yorke on the phone for Guess Who was pretty funny too.
and it's all downloadable from http://www.biggedybong.com/the_last_final_show.html
i assumed cadd meant that for some reason. Whoops.
in their last week they explained that the reason they'd stopped having a go at the Stereophonics was because Kelly Jones left a message for them saying that of all the people who had ever slagged them off, Mark and Lard were the best
my father & i praise you
loads of mark and lard tapes.
i remember the day after their last graveyard shift show everyone came into school wearing black armbands.
does anyone remember its predecessors 'out on blue six' and 'hit the north' on radio 5?
the poetry slots.
1997 at this time of year made that my A-Level year.
Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley before them, too, wasn't it?
Shit I'm old.
fucked up ghetto siege enviroment and their and John Peels shows were a lifeline, seriously
you being besieged by?
who used to scrawl 'blahblahblah is running the show' etc on the walls and didn't like it when we added 'what show's that then cause it's certainly not Mastermind or The Clothes Show'. I was top flat, first two landings were for the teenage gangstas to smoke dope/drink/take pills, top two floors were a shooting gallery. Entire close covered in junkies blood, needles, piss, puke, human shit, rubbish, graffiti, smashed windows, breakins, fires. I had to clean all this up, inc dirty needles, on threat of being made homeless, which would probably have been safer. Mark and Lard and John Peel were like a beacon in the night.
though they were embarassing in the afternoons.
i have a sore throat
I used to love that show.
Still quite like Marks's radio 2 thing but no where near as good as the old days.
10-12 was the best time for them to be on..once they went daytime it all just fell apart a bit
for a little bit which was very short lived.
I think a lot of people didn't get it.
I remember listening to that final show, cannot believe ten years have passed since then.
I used to be emailing them constantly and sniggering with glee when they read my stuff out :)
The daytime playlist was torturous but they had so little respect for it that it made it worthwhile "guaranteed three good tunes in the next two hours!"
I use to sit in my graphics & art lessons just emailing them.
Is a dobbin or a bobbin?
in 1999 and was unable to stop myself gushing at him.
not in a spunky way, obv.
