That's the rumour going round our offices, apparently.
Is it like Wimpy?
that the one at the eastern end of oxford street had changed to a different brand, but was still basically the same thing.
i hope not :'(
No more Eastern European soup kitchen on your doorstep. :-(
I noticed that. I thought Benjy's was having a makeover.
"On Monday 5th February 2007, staff working for Benjys stated that the company had gone in to liquidation the previous Friday, and franchisees have been given two weeks to sort out replacement vehicles for their sandwich delivery businesses. The Benjys website appears to have been taken down. ."
was selling off everything dead cheap yesterday. Now it's gone.
now where do i go for cheap evening snacks when i'm dodging dinner and going straight out after work?!?!
50p croissants with cheese in!
to pretend you didn't say that.
i agree with you.
their chicken salad bloomers cannot be beaten.
with your apparent non-anger at being called "mrs guntrip".
I'm moving to the USA.
au bon pain!
is Tasty Corner?
in Camden, by the Oxford Arms. On the corner.
WHAT? When did that happen?
Not that I ever used it. I favour a stomach pain inducing veggie samosa from 'Metro' by the Electric Ballroom.
and the food looks edible now.
It's fucking rubbish.
Have you ever had a breakfast sandwich from Metro? I used to get them when I worked at the tube station. Fucking mint.
I might try to arrange that...assuming they do veggie versions, of course :D
at about 8am.
because it's, for the most part, fucking deserted.
I'm too small to look up in busy Camden!
It's opposite the Elephant's Head - home of the Sophie/Bamos/Crab Monday night sambucca party!
I just didn't know what it was called. We should have more Party Mondays!
in Camden on the corner of Camden High Street and Hawley Crescent that sold pizza and stuff.
*HAS Benjy's gone bust?
Though, strictly speaking, the trademark was for 'Benjys', so you're wrong twice.
Though I don't like their misuse of the apostrophe in their name and correct them on principle.
In other news: Sainsbury's have "5 Items or fewer" on the tobacco counter tills. Good work!
how do you know it wasn't a group of people called Benjy that formed it and they just wanted to talk about the "Benjys" that put it together? No possessiveness involved at all?
but I am working on the principle that Benjy is not a common name outside of childrens' TV shows with a loveable dog and therefore I am right.
How great was Benjy, Zak and the Alien Prince?
Or was it Zak with a 'c'?
i have a vague recollection of this.
on Tott Court Road shut the other day, and they were holding an 'everything must go' sale.
An odd concept at a fast food store..
I couldn't help it. I bought fourteen jacket potatoes, a bag of crisps and twelve fromage frais. They were all just SO cheap..
I saw the one on tottenham court road had closed and almost had an aneurism, cos I thought it was Wasabi.
Thankfully not, though benjys had their moments when they were doing that 'happy two hours' thing and made everything cheap around three o clock
it's well annoying, the one right next to my work kept saying "benjy's is closed today due to an electrical fault".. i knew there was something fishy about it. so i went to greggs.
I went up to the counter at 3.15pm with the most expensive Pannini I could find and asked if it was a pound, she said "no. dont do happy hour no more" So I went a picked up one of the cheapo ones. I realised I had no change. I asked if they took cards. She went "no. dont take cards" So I left.
I think I killed them.
on a road off oxford street
virgin radio is on Golden Sq.
oxford st is long!
I only use Benjy's when I'm feeling trampy.
too much nasty muck in everything they do.
The sandwiches aren't so good now thanks to raw red onions in about 50% of all veggie ones, but the Thai Green soup (or any veggie soup) is good and the Chocolate Cake, Lemon Cheesecake and Chocolate Mousse are all MMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm!
And let's be honest, the pudding is what eating is all about.
i'm talking about.
never had any of their puddings.
and they just pump loads of water and shit in it to make it taste "fresh"
They have a non-controlling 40% share in the company that Pret sold in order to get the money to expand more. You can't even get money off in Pret with a MacDonalds card because my sister tried when she a was a Maccy D manager.
How can you pump water into soup to make it taste fresh? And they better fucking pump water into my tea/coffee.
They also do great cheese croissants.
cheese baked onto the top, don't they? they look rank.
but they have herbs and maybe tomatoes as well? I know I only took one once as a last resort since I needed something hot.
It was utterly great. But it was too expensive.
pass, i think.
they're all shit. Except EAT.
because of it's stupid name.
I went there once. Way more than Pret but much less food. The sandwiches, coffee and MOST IMPORTANTLY the chocolate cake were all smaller portions.
And the chocolate cake was WAY worse than Pret's.
I don't understand you people. Pret is actually really nice food.
you people see to eat a lot in rubbish chain foot places. why?
Generally because I don't have time to make anything and because I don't really want to spend half a lunch hour putting together a great sandwich at work.
Or the smaller places are actually much farther from work so hard to get to.
It's a myth that Pret do bad food. It's certianly pricey but it's still cheaper than others.
i pop in every so often to pick up a quick snack when i don't have time to go home.
i certainly don't rate places based on chocolate cake?!?!
i just wouldn't eat chocolate cake in them in the first place.
s'kinda my point, i wouldn't go into these places for a meal.
I'M TALKING ABOUT CHOCOLATE CAKE!
Now I know what you're talking about. Those kinda sandwich shop things.
Ah, I really don' mind if these shut down. Load of rubbish with shit processed food.
More organic food shops - That's what's needed.
that will slowly kill you isn't being a hippy, it's being careful.
from going on a massive "the food industry kills you" rant.
But trust me, I have a point.
you live in central london.
It's pretty easy to get organic food in central London.
I don't know if you meant it is/isn't.
Anyway, the point it, it's difficult to get organic food late at night and cheaply, and quickly.
A cheap organic place should open up, but the govt. doesn't give any breaks to organic producers so everything is mega expensive, then they wonder why everyon is ill from eating shit.
I WON'T start on this rant...
i mean that you're probably doing a lot of damage to yourself just by living there.
but no more than living in Archway or Holloway, or Mile End or any busy as fuck polluted place.
Generally, London is bad for your health. I try not to think about it. Like when you blow your nose after being on the tube and it's black.
That CAN'T be good.
It's just an inferior Gregg's, with horrible, sub-supermarket, tasteless, flaccid sandwiches that aren't even *that* cheap. And the cheese they use is basically 100% grated plastic.
they sell yum yums! i have a yum yum as much as possible.
the ones in my greggs are an acceptable length but i agree, not enough sugar stuff. it's just not sweet enough!
