oh dear, oh dear ...
you might even get a manchester version of CSI
what do you mean snake eyes? Shit!
it's going to be in a "deprived" area...
seriously though, manchester has lots of rich people ... well, cheshire does
full of blocks of wankerflat "apartments".
that's right, and so is salford quays.
i spent one evening there, at a friend-of-a-friend's place in one of the aforementioned 'apartment' blocks near oxford road station.
lucky them. or words to that effect.
her flatmate's parents bought it as an 'investment' and let them rent it at well below market rates.
people like that.
i knew of a girl at uni whose parents bought her a house, let her live there rent free and let out the other rooms in the house at the market rate. this struck me as an inevitable cause of tension and hatred.
far too many of those flats. I was looking at them a couple of months ago and they seem to be going for relatively reasonable prices.
i'm a long way off being able to buy my own place. i can just about afford to rent in the city centre but choose to do so just outside becaue it knocks about 160 per month off my rent...
the window of agents near St.Johns Street when I was early for a conference and 1/2 bed places near the city centre were at £135 - £150k.
They looked like good value to me although I don't know Manchester all that well and what was described as a central location could have been anywhere for all I know!
how are they "experts" at playing the property market?
being able to improve properties yourself without hiring people in to do it for you is probably pretty helpful, though.
the reason most people don't do it is because they simply cannot afford to.
they're good at spotting properties that have 'potential' - can be converted easily, are in areas about to soar in value, etc etc.
i've decided i no longer give a flying fuck about buying somewhere. i want to live where i chose, not where everyone else doesn't want to, thankyouverymuch.
"are in areas about to soar in value"
but he lives in manchester. the desirable areas have remained constant for YEARS
City center aside, yes.
and alderley edge, and hale, and altrincham and .....
that's it for my knowledge of manchester. i saw ronaldo in the hogshead there once.
woodford ... somebody once stole £25,000 worth of jewellery from his house. twat.
i think i made that pretty clear. although in practice, large parts of cheshire are effectively in manchester in that they share that cities facilities etc
is in the ceremonial county of Cheshire but for administrative purposes it's the county of Greater Manchester.
wilmslow obviously isn't manchester but it functions, at least in part, as a suburb of manchester. does that kinda make sense?
woodford is in stockport borough council but so are lots of places...
back to the future2. haha!
it's going to be in Manchester! i just got a phonecall from Channel 4 News about it.
i thought this was another one. so they're not putting one in the dome now?
in other regions of the country in due course though.
thought so .... but at the minute, there is only one license
it's ahardly like there were hoards of people demanding enourmous jackpot fruitmachines in petitions to downing st.
all i want is a bandit with maybe a £25 limit and some interesting features. not like the soulless american fruities.
but surely a case has to be made for REGULATING gambling not for DEREGULATING it?
I'm not sure why gambling has historically been more tightly controlled than alcohol when the latter has far worse consequences.
worst of both worlds?
but that doesn't answer my question, really....
the poorest people, alcoholism is more problematic than gambling addiction in that it's significantly more widespread, surely?
i'm not convinced.
read too much that has a Marxist bent:p
it will create 3,000 shitty useless jobs?
The BBC News seemed to think it was between Blackpool and London. Southern-biased bastards.
think Blackpool is near Aldershot or something?
was in the south! A quick check has proved me wrong.....
shame on you...
I think I got it confused with Bournemouth...
although i would of prefered if it was in london
I feel so sad for Blackpool now.
come to Blackpool? and did you come to Lytham St.Annes?
That BBC.co.uk article is brilliant. They interview the owner of Scottie's Got It, a shop described as having a hand-written sign outside saying We Sell Fags.
They call it a novelty shop and I suppose it is in a way.
That way being that it sells blow-up dolls, penis-shaped rock and poppers.
God bless Blackpool
maybe now Blackpool will dessicate and blow out into the Irish Sea, like a particularly large and greasy fish and chip wrapper.
