Out on DVD tomorrow. w00p!
i love Roger Hargreaves.
so much better than the trailer made it look!
i will wait till it's reduced.
guardian review said it would be £19.99 :-|
to be subtle about what you want for your birthday James
But a quid cheaper from CD-Wow at Play:
God bless http://www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk
which is a mixed blessing. I don't have to use £15 of my money for something, but inevitably if its anything half decent I'll have to subsidise its outrageous price with some of my own cash anyway. Bastards.
Still, thanks for the present Auntie.
And it won the PGA!! Outside chance for an Oscar now?
Maybe, just maybe, I'll mooch over to Blockbuster tonight to rent the shit out of this
I've been meaning to for aaaages. I also wanna see Thank You For Not Smoking, and haven't got round to that either
That Last King Of Scotland looks really good too. Gah! Too many moooooooovies
i'm pretty sure that film was called 'Thank You FOR Smoking'.
Thanks for pointing out my mistake, 'neecho'. Consider yourself on my list
if all football were that good, i would watch it far more often.
I hope someone buys me this!
I loves it!
I love this film... it made me laugh a lot.. I love the relationship between the Uncle and the son the best of all, actually - fucking way cool sub plot.
and Thank You For Smoking (in your FACE neecho)
did you like my scorchio's? i was having a nostalgic moment.
Of course I did, you sexy lump of sex
i actually ROFLed at that. my legs came off the floor and everything.
just imagining Goss saying to himself 'BOSH!!!!' in his head as he struck that.
"Bish Bash GOSS!" at that moment. He missed a trick there
Motson's always been a twat hasn't he?
But he means well. I like the way that Mark Lawrenson is effectively his carer. But who's got the bollocks to tell him he's not good enough anymore? I don't think they ever will. They'll still let him go to games and sit in the gantry, only they won't plug his mic in. Let him think he's still addressing the nation, that's what I say
how he has these silly match facts all the time. crap at commentating, but i'd miss BBC football coverage without him.
is alright nothing special, little miss sunshine i thought was great though.
Wednesdays can get a little boring without films.
(i haven't seen it)
she is a massive erection.
it does look like one of those kind of films. but i'll give it a go at some point, however i'm not paying £13.99 for the privilege.
rent it? Also, I still haven't sent that Gilbert Grape to you. I'm a bad person
rented a film out before. I'm a lamer. I would probably lose it knowing my luck.
Yeah you loser you were meant to send me it! You are a terrible person. was it a good film though?
I nearly cried at one point : ( But then I remembered how butch and manly I am and I soon regained composure. Also, I couldn't get the Andy Millman line out of my head from Extras about playing a spastic if you want to get an Oscar
PM me your uni address and I will send it you/stalk you
cry. It sounds good, and sad; in fact I like a good cry.
heh it'd be a bit of a mission for you to stalk me.
"I found it really contrived in it's quirky-ness, trying to tick all the indie film boxes" is ALWAYS said about Garden State, and that's one of my favourite films.
I want to see it more.
It usually means I won't want to see it.
little miss sunshine bypassed the indie quirkyness by being far too funny.
but Little Miss Sunshine is genuinely heartwarming and funny and ace, whereas garden state (imho) is none of those things.
i liked this film much more than garden state.
I'll rent this in the week, and make up my mind.
First Brick... now Garden State... next you'll say Everything Is Illuminated is awful.
i liked everything is illuminated :)
i also recommend buying 'Brick' on DVD as it's amazing.
I loved it so much.
Brick >>>>> Pan's Labyrinth
but the two look worlds apart. a bit hard to compare.
but P'sL has alot to live up to.
But I enjoyed watching Brick a hell of a lot more.
that's you out of my goodbooks forever :P
Pan's Labyrinth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Everything else >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Brick
Brick = not very good.
i had quarms with it, but very very few. it was exciting, original, engaging, cool. it was very good.
i must see Pan's Labyrinth
and a really rather vague, uninspiring storyline ever. The 'love interest' girl was REALLY annoying, and apart from a couple of moments of brilliance (the Pin talking to his mum) it was just dull.
makes no sense. But you get the gist.
I just didn't see the big deal.
Really enjoyable, just not "best film ever"
what's wrong with Brick?
but, brick was rubbish?
I only meant to put :(
No idea where that came from!?
I guess it was on the dropdown menu of past posts... or something.
I think that was the main problem with it.
aside from the awful acting (which i can sometimes deal with) it ust wasn't a very good film.
was one of the best things about it but I just found the film irritating. It was too self-consciously hip and I don't think the central concept held together for the length of the film. Plus talking really fast does not make your dialogue cooler.
it was heavily stylised in parts. i liked how the characters were near caricatures too, it fitted with the theme of the film.
sounded like it was lifted straight from a comic book. It was an utterly exaggerated version of real life, in an attempt to appear superslick and hip. This could have worked, but the actors just didn't pull it off. Especially in the dialogue between the main character and his geeky giles-like sidekick.
a film noir homage, so the dialogue was dead on, and so were the character types. whether the mixture of noir style and modern day worked that well as a whole, i'm undecided.
the femme fatale was completely unconvincing.
in this thread:
Films annoy me.
it was supposed to be that way, not to be 'hip' but to be just like a comic book. i think it was what they were going for. The film is deliberately detached from real life, and i feel it really works and helps the story flow. and it was just thoroughly enjoyable.
plus some of the camera work was excellent.
i dont think it works at all, it makes the film (to me) very jarring.
it just annoyed me. The characters annoyed me, the self consciousness of it annoyed me, and the way it wasn't real annoyed me. I'm an irritable type of person when it comes to films, it seems.
it was almost funny! awful! The guy who played the Pin was the only enigmatic character in the whole film. Srsly. Anyway, enough Brick bashing, you're perfectly entitled to enjoy whatever (shit) films you like ;)
It's on my (now epic-looking) films to watch list :)
it was more style over substance though, has some great scenes but the overall film felt slightly lacking but still interesting. Little miss sunshine i think managed to be heart warming without being too sentimental and was very funny without being overly quirky, a great film and i would quite happily watch it again
Brick was brilliant, the stroyline was somewhat convoluted, granted, but the rest was great. I thought the acting was perfectly fine, great direction, and some great lines. And that it was written and directed by one guy with such a small budget behind it made it even better. The bit where he's being chased through the school by that guy with a knife was ace.
Volver was also brilliant, although I felt a bit stupid at the end when I finally cottoned on as to what was going on with the mother. :(
i never 'get' things in films till really late. I didn't even get that Bruce Willis was dead in 6th sense till after the film had finished.
(apologies to anyone who has yet to see 6th sense and didn't want the twist ruined. I'ts not a very good film anyway)
it came out in the states yonks ago.
