i have just learnt. so if yr thinking of joining don't put it off.
thats fucking outrageous
they will but only up to 6 months. I understand it was previously 2 years.
it's been that way for several years. that's what i remember the prs rep in scotland telling me about 6 years ago anyway...
They keep all the money that would be rightfully yours if you had been a member?
it stays in a suspense account.
What happens to it next?
and they pay them. i'm not actually sure what happens to it then. but, essentially it's a non-profit organisation.
i don't think they get money for every song ever played and just sit on it until someone asks for it.
also if the station you're played on isn't being 'monitored' on the day you're played you get nowt.
if someone isn't a member, the money will either get put into a suspense account or paid to say, a member whose song was played by the band.
It's an odd system. Surely they can invest in some software that checks playlists against registered members or something.
to check every playlist of every station on every day in the whole country, so they have to take sample days. though i think they were attempting to bring in electronic registering of playlists - but then it's up to the station themselves.
about that gig. reply!
and, once a member you're a member for life so.... personally i think it's worth it.
they used to only pay 20% of all earnings under £200 (i think) but they brought in new systems to do it all. essentially if you do it yourself at each gig you do and get the manager of the venue to sign it off, it should be ok. i think. you should ring them and ask. seriously.
send you info about all this when you join?
They also get names mixed up. I know someone who had 90% of his songs attributed to someone with a similar name!
Also know someone who got 2 grand from someone else's songs (but paid it back of course)
is probably getting all the cash from your songs, Andy!
i wouldn't mind that.
can't fill in forms properly.
it's the pervy emoticon! You hypocrite!
when used on msn
Someone told me their band had maybe 10K-14K in potential royalties from playlisting, but if they signed up themselves it would be a lottery as to whether they got some/all of that money.
However, the trick was to get a publishing deal with a label who would then make sure that all possible money was collected, or something...
as the money goes to the writers, not the labels. - or whoever is attached to that song, as such.
not all playlists are monitered as they just don't have the resources to be able to do that. for example - i worked in the live section - there were about, 18 of us. working on ALL live shows for all venues in the whole country.
