deaf or blind?
SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLS
so when i do, i'll tell you which one sucks more.
I've been nearly deaf in the past, and it's awful.
being blind isn't as awful?
but I'm also very very shortsighted, and walking around without my glasses doesn't upset me as much as not being able to hear.
between extreme shortsightedness and total blindness.
I don't think nice_squirrel understands the seriousness of this thread.

JER-UH-MEH SPORK-AYAN UH-SPOKEAYANNNN....
not on music !
deaf- no music, music is my passion!
blind- never see a beautiful landscape again, no art, never see my childs face, and not being able to see the man i love :'(
I'd like to say blind cause I love music but I panic when I'm in the shower and get shampoo in my eyes so I can't imagine being like that all the time.
I would rather go blind, boy.
I've got megatinnitus already, it's rubbish.
i'm scared of the dark.
I'm half blind anyway without my glasses, and I couldn't miss out on music.
You can still comunicate pretty damn easily - texting whatever. It wouldn't be fun, but wouldn't make life impossible either.
Blind would be infinitely worse, you wouldn't be able to do an awful lot independently at all.
also people who say they don't wanna be deaf because of music are gay. i'm already half deaf anyway so it wouldn't be too much of a difference
music plays a huge part in a lot of peoples lives
But I don't believe that for the majority it's something that's going to remain a big thing. For a very small number, perhaps. But most will have families and probably wouldn't count music as a 'major' factor.
I mean, for the past four or so years, music has been the thing my life's centred around. And my interest has been totally consistent. I know that music will continue to be a huge part of my life, for quite probably, the rest of my life...
Almost every night I enjoy is in someway connected to music.
You're thirty. You get married, have kids.
Are you saying you'd value listening to music, more than being able to see your family. And it's selfish too - because those people would have to dedicate a large amount of their time to helping you.
You're still a kid, you don't have to worry about jobs and family and all that stuff yet. Your priorities will change at some point, I'd imagine.
You'd rather be deaf than blind, I'd rather be blind than deaf.
It's S U B J E C T I V E. I don't see any reason for discussion.
But speak for yourself, please?
I was saying you're being narrow minded, I think that's a reasonable point seeing as your reasoning is 'to listen to music'.
You think it's narrow-minded, that's great.
We simply disagree, based on our interests/views. What's the point in challenging someone elses views on something like this?
Could you live with never being able to see anyone you love/might ever love again.
And then say to them that you chose music over them.
"We simply disagree, based on our interests/views. What's the point in challenging someone elses views on something like this?"
I can repeat this as many times as necessary, if you like?
I would choose music over the important people in my life.
This is a petty argument, based on a hypothetical question. Please just accept I disagree.
For Christ's sake, will that make you stop?
just being devils advocate here, as i previously posted, i cant decide myself anyway.
but i am sure that music will always be a part of my life, and lots of peoples.
Who live to hear the next Arcade Fire records. I'm sure people will still love music, but I can't see it being so important.
I meant any music.
My father used to do tons of music stuff - he was in a band and wrote reviews, all sorts. Did things for newspapers/magazines.
He's 41 now, still loves music, but wouldn't even think of being blind as preferable.
But 99% of people would put their family above music.
i can have a family and music can maintain it's place as a big part of my life.
im not going to stop being me and give up my whole life when i have kids. you can be a good parent and have hobbies!
ps. my step-dad is very into his music and he is nearly 40
But by being blind you wouldn't be able to see that family, you'd have immense difficulty in finding a job, wouldn't be able to go out much, and would require considerable care, thus placing a lot of strain on the people around you.
IM JUST SAYING
u bloody housewife :P
I just couldn't face not being able to see the faces of my partner/children.
traynor sees this. He'll murderise you!
Thirty years down the line, do you really think that your biggest concern will some album or other.
I know I'd much rather only be able to see my kids, than only hear their voices. [In the future, I mean... I don't have kids]
how would you feel if i told you that you could never hear foals again?
or any other band that you love?
than never see anyone i love. are you seriously saying that the only reason you would rather be blind is because of music? sure, music is great, but it's not your career ambition is it? it's not your LIFE and it's not your fucking boyfriend either
i said i cant choose.
im arguing both sides of the argument.
i can FEEL my boyfriend.
but yeah, i hate the thought of never seeing the man i love.
or any hot menz for that matter.
then i'd develop SUPER eyesight to compensate. and i'd be able to SEE soundwaves and FEEL the vibrations - like beethoven or something. It'd be AWESOME.
Also, with my new SUPER eyesight i would be able to have XRAY vison and see the bones in my hand and stuff (y)
The thought of being at all dependent on anyone else really vexes me.
If I had to choose, then I would KILL MYSELF.
Clearly it's cooler, Stevie Wonder thought so.
Name a cool deaf person? eh?
Thom Yorke allegedly has very bad tinnitus...
Can I be like half deaf and half blind?
And no, you can't.
he was pretty cool. he used to play football with us. and he could talk in sign language. i'd like to be able to do that. (actually i'd like to be able to talk in another language anyway - but im rubbish at learning languages :( )
then i'd develop SUPERhearing, and i'd be able to HEAR everything about the world around me.
Music would sound better, and I'd be able to win fights in the dark. Because the other person couldnt see, but I'd be able to HEAR and SENSE their mvoements, thereby giving me the advantage.
that'd pass the time.
If not then I would prob opt for deaf.
It's like... do you want me to cut off your finger, or your hand?
It's "do you want me to cut off your finger or your hand".
Someone might choose the latter, but I'd call them an idiot.
2. Calling them an idiot is way more "narrow-minded" than anything I have said. I'd rather be blind than deaf, but can totally see why people people would see otherwise, because (again) it's subjective and people have different interests/views. Please accept other people's opinions on this matter.
I'm entitled to think that.
But please don't attack people for disagreeing. That's so "narrow-minded" :)
"But by being blind you wouldn't be able to see that family, you'd have immense difficulty in finding a job, wouldn't be able to go out much, and would require considerable care, thus placing a lot of strain on the people around you."
For God's sake.
How does that make a reply to my statement?
Because you don't want to? What a surprise...
at least if you had sight you could lip-read, and you can still appreciate music without hearing it. get one of those bass sensitive dancefloors installed throughout your house!
I think there would be actual advantages in some ways - being able to be less superficial and judgemental about people because of their appearance.
Heightening of other senses, especially hearing.
Without my hearing I think I'd go a bit mental and would definately be depressed without music.
despite all I've said - NEITHER PLEASE.
There's blind superheroes like Daredevil, but there aren't any deaf superheroes, cause they would be totally shit!
you get to hear music and date ugly people, who will probably be up for doing all sorts of orgy thing and how good booby to touch
in theory : blind ( how to live without music ? )
in real life : blind ( life would be hell if becoming blind at my age... )
in real life : deaf...
But apparently I'm already stupid so god won't inflict me with another infirmity...
id still be able to do music AND id be less shallow.
disability benefits for blindness would be buff ting.
and put it in a time capsule with a release date of seventy year's time for children/grandchildren to read.
I bet god is reading this thread. And being the mean spirited, evil bastard that he is (floods, hurricanes, AIDS), he'll give each and every one of us the exact opposite of what we've said we could tolerate.
nelson's column, anyone?
