doesn't have a full story up as yet but, argh.
sorry, yeah bombing in iraq near a university kills 60
34,000 civillians killed last year.
hard to believe it's been nearly 4 years since the invasion..
really, really sick.
that's either half the population of my home town, or slightly more than my hometown - i cannae remember how big it is
"More than 34,000 civilians were killed in violence in Iraq during 2006, a UN human rights official has said."
that's quite staggering for a "democtratic" country
on a staggering scale. why don't they stop killing one another?
I cannot understand it. It is something that is almost inconceivable in Europe or America.
Most historical disputes and group hatreds make me think that people should just grow up. i should think about things a bit more, i suspect...
people are idiotic.
but at the same time they are standing up for what they believe in, albeit in an horrific way. but i can understand why they feel oppressed.
but how do they think blowing up universities is going to aid any cause that they are fighting for?
"i can understand why they feel oppressed"
they have an intruding army telling them what to do, and imposing themselves. obviously they are playing to this routine, but it still stands that they view their country as being sculpted in the eyes of countries whose policies they directly oppose.
in the civil war...
i know it is far more complicated than that, but regardless, the intruding forces have not done enough to prevent such a civil war occuring.
when i say oppressed i mean the sunni muslims for whom the tables have been turned. when you are in a minority it is easy let things get the better of you, especially given the violence that they had endured in the last few years. it's no excuse, but it is one of the worst handled situations that i know of.
nearly 30,000 people in the US were killed by firearms. Inconceivable maybe, but it seems that Americans are pretty good at killing each other as well.
USA is 300 Million.
there is a ongoing civil war in Iraq with dire and deadly consequences for its population.
Not wanting to suggest that death rates in the US are comparable at any level, but Americans do get killed in significant numbers as a result of violence-related injuries.
To put the US statistics in context, between 2001 and 2003 the average annual number of deaths from firearms in the UK was 165.
Though their murder rates are far higher.
the high rate of gun ownership combined with the willingness to kill each other, as borne out in the above statistics, it is easily conceivable that the US would turn into a massive bloodbath should the existing governmental, military and judicial structures be removed in a short space of time, as happened in Iraq as a result of the US invasion.
what a pathetic pointless waste of life.
and those poor people that died in Iraq too
it is Pointless.
Nothing will change as a result of this.
There must be a lot of Sadists in Iraq.
especially people who do things in the name of god, why don't people understand that however much they believe they are right someone else believes equally as much something completely different, what makes them think they are right, arrogance or mental illness I dont get it.
The people who blew up a bomb and killed people are just as right as people who believe that it's wrong then, surely?
Who are you to judge? They believe something different equally as much.
did I say something wrong, I was just saying I find it hard to understand how people can be so convinced of their rightness about god that they would kill people when they can see that other people are equally convinced that they are wrong about god, without either being able to prove they are right I don't understand how they don't question that they might be wrong, it is just something I don't understand about humans.
it just seemed like you were saying people couldn't ever be right because people would disagree with it.
They probably don't have that much of a blanced enviroment in Iraq anyway, ignorance I guess. I think they're wrong, I think they're stupid but I don't think they're neccessarily evil.
I do kinda think people can never be right when it comes to something cannot be proved like god, people should believe what they ever like but they don't have the right to expect others who don't share their beliefs to follow their rules and in the worst case killing them for it
I wouldn't go there for anything less than 10k a day.
I mean nothing really shocks me about the country anymore. It seems like a few people have truly lost their minds.
