Anyone fancy a trip to the football? <footiecentric>
Me and a couple of mates are broadening our footballing horizons and are planning on going to a few grounds around the london area. So I am making an open invitaion to those here to accompany us. The lower the league/standard, the better. Any suggestions?
I love visiting new grounds
I've done most of the lower league ones in London, but am open to either go again and have a few beers, or visit the other ones. Count me in.
Nice one...
we were planning on going to Orient soon. Been there?
Yeah
Be aware it's incredibly expensive for no real reason to get into the Orient. And the night I went it snowed like fuck and the floodlights failed for an hour at the start. Not a great day...
All grounds seem to be expensive nowadays...
I went to Borehamwood and it was £9!! For Ryman Premier!!
I was talking to pigfoot about this the other day
It's a real shame, some of the prices these days. It costs £7 for Dulwich fucking Hamlet. Good lord.
A bloke I know...
who goes to B'wood every week says the league sets the prices. Its fucking outrageous.
I'm not so sure about that
That just seems like a conspiracy theory to me. I think it's a difficult balance to find - clubs like that can't afford to charge too little, as they'll go under, and they can't afford to charge too much as people just won't bother.
Its such a thin line...
between staying afloat and sinking at that level as well. Because in all honesty, nobody really wants to watch that standard of football, bar locals. I often wonder how Borehamwood stay afloat. Insurance scams I think.
I love watching football at that level
For the passion, the atmosphere, the knowledgable fans, and the fact you're so much closer to the action. I spent most of my childhood watching Gresley Rovers, and went to every home game and a huge number of away games for years. I would much rather, if given a free ticket to either, watch Gravesend or Congleton or Hayes than Man United, Liverpool or Spurs.
I'd be up for going to Orient
If I supported a football team it'd probably be that one, by rights, as it's closest to where I was born
Come along!
It'll be a good laugh. We should extend it into a drinking session/night out.
I'd be up for Leyton Orient too
that was my Dad's local team.
I'll start researching local pubs
Good man.
yeah, i'm definitely in
Dagenham & Redbridge please.
Looks like Orient at the minute!
Sounds like a plan!
Are there pubs on the journey?
Then I am happy with the half-hour walk
As long as the locals won't kick me in the face.
I've not been to Dag&Red
They're on my 'list'.
QPR!
i live on loftus road, but haven't been to a game yet... oops
Come to Orient!
We'll put QPR on the list.
Lets make a list
Orient
QPR
Brentford
Millwall?
Barnet?
i used to live near millwall too!
Are you just going to tell us where you've lived
Or actually add something worthwhile?
;) (<--- look! it was a joke!)
i hate you
no, i was just saying. i seem to accidentally choose to live by football grounds. i've lived by them for three years straight. weird. it's fun on match days as we know when anyone scores.
AFC Wimbledon's a good shout.
I second this
Palace!
fuck that
selhurst park is a shithole
But its in lovely Thornton Heath
Fool.
lovely my hairy arse
ok
I want to come!
I've never been to a proper football ground.
And if you go to Orient, you still won't have!
*ba-boom TISH*
Thankyou, I'm here all week. Take my wife...no, please, take my wife...
Hendon!
Borehamwood!
Its better.
Hendon!
St Albans!
Conference, good pubs and VIOLENCE!
St Albans!
Shit pubs, full of cunts. Next!
but
VIOLENCE!
I would also apply
your argument to Borehamwood, so I won't go there (literally)
I agree with your argument.
Does this mean next tuesday is off?
no
I just meant in footnall context
Good
I'm gonna pick the scummiest pub in Borehamwood now.
count
me in.
tried northwood?
Scott Fitzgerald!
Fitzroy Simpson!
Fitz Hall!
Sorry, um anyone fancy a trip to Home Park? Is that a no? Oh...
I do
if you put me up
Sure Thing.
Anyway, it's miles better then the New Den, which I hate more then any other ground in the country.
I'll pick a game then.
No, you pick a game
Take your pick:
http://www.pafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Fixtures/0,,10364,00.html
but if it's a Saturday game then I need to know a few weeks in advance due to work.
Palace at home
so I can support Argyle with full throat
Great...
a couple of pints in the Brit with the diehard fans before the game. Are you a Terrace or Seating man?
whichever
(I am serious by the way)
I'm serious as well!
I'm usually on the Mayflower terrace as I'm a tight git although it's the favourite haunt of the moaners. Most of the chanting goes on in the Devonport stand (seating).
Yes, I do
.
good
how many have we got now?
I think all in all,
its about 9 of us. A pretty good showing.
have we decided where we are going though?
Dagenham first
on the 10th feb, then Orient on the 24th Feb.
superb
I'll do QPR with Sarky, I think
out of respect for my friend Teef, who is a fan.................
We are...
like a better QPR though with Gallen and Holloway here.
Darlington anyone?
No?
Gah!
We'll plan a summer bus trip.
We should stop at Doncasters new ground on the way...
looks pretty nice.
Let's coordinate a week off work
and hire a minibus
I'm up for that!!
See how amny football grounds we can do in a week!
it'll be no good in summer
Well we'll do it for may then!
last weeks of the season, plenty of games!
Come to Darlo
Seriously.
The new ground is a mini Riverside Stadium!
Home Park!
Actually, can I have a seat on the bus?
Carrow Road
I can promise you awful football, funny goings on and a good night out
Yeah...
I really can't promise the good night out part in Plymouth.
oh no!
And the last bus...
back to my place is at 11:45. :-(
Plymouths nightlife is so bad the best place to go out on a night out is the Gay Club.
^^^ sounds like a plan!
^^^ not the gay club
I was talking about carrow road.
Meh...
same thing basically.
[/obvious joke]
you're not wrong
[/Jason Shackell]
And Paul Mcveigh.
Only good footballers should spend ages on their hair.
I'll open up the Moat Ground
Home of Gresley Rovers while the bus is on it's way back down south. REAL FOOTBALL. We'd probably double the attendance as well...
So....
this bus then.
I suggest we start from Barnet and move our way North.
Let's See Queens Park at Hampden Park.
I've always wanted to do that.
I wanna go to Dunfermline!
There always one...
Let's do East Stirling, I've never seen such a depressing place.
up the A1
thats what she said
end at Darlo
:p
(cause then I can come)
Although I could stretch to York...
And Hartlepool of course.
cool
you can pick me up, cos i live in barnet
Right, Roll Call for the bus...
Who's in?
Olegrich (me)
devonmalcom?
bamos?
joeymahone?
tom_from_sparks?
Oh, I can't drive. But I can bring lots of alcohol. My parents run an off license.
I can't drive either
I can supply endless terrible puns and mix CDs.
I can supply cd's as well.
I can't drive as well...
but I'll bring tapes and Gin.
Who can fucking drive then?!!!
It'll be like the Flintstones
Oh man, this is going to (Bed) Rock!
WILMMMMMAAAAA!!!!
I'm sorry to do this
I can't drive!
AAAARRRRGHHHH!!!!
Who can drive??!!!!
my girlfriend
Hoorah!!!
Does she like football?
sort of
will she drive us?
yes
Does she enjoy getting drunk with...
5 twenty something men who each have a mental age of about 7?
well yes
she does actually
Brilliant!
This will be great. Can we go to 'Gay Meadow' in Shrewsbury as well?
OverLOLd
what?
7 lads in a minibus going to gay meadow? whats wrong with that?
We might lose a bit of Pride (Park) but who cares.
And the Deva Stadium at Chester
so we can step into and out of Wales like an excited 6 year old!
and
Portman Road to look at the prostitutes
I suggest we do both
Manchester stadiums as well.
Ana is going to punch you
SQUARE IN THE FACE
she'll say yes
she always does
I feel for her
I really do
me!
wait, where? when? how much are tickets? what am i saying 'me' to?
Gang rape in a mini bus by
seven men in football shirts.
fuck. sign me up!
hoorah!
you do realise I'm involved?
hoorah!
do we have to
get a football shirt at each football ground and wear them until we can't fit any more on?
This could get...
quite costly...
^^^ this is a great idea.
we'll steal then
hoorah!
EXCUSE ME
Six men. I have no intention of wearing a football shirt.
We're all going to buy them
And force you to wear them. You'll be wearing, at current count, 60 football shirts at once.
hoorah!
I'll prepare the loan form from the bank.
to pay my girlfriend to drive?
Or for the football shirts?
both!
Can you do Lewes FC
And Crawley Town, then I can go.
DARLO DARLO
Ahem.
no
Bitch
i actually do want to go to at least one match
btw, bitches.
you think this is a joke?
no, do you?
no
good
Good! I'm well looking forward to this
when are you planning it for??
May, or thereabouts...
end of april/may
(I think)
May I think...
We are not going to Oxford though, the Kassam stadium is the second worst stadium I've ever been to.
:(
It's even worse...
then the Withdean stadium.
Come with us in the van!
if there's space
i definitely shall!
but we may
pop through on the way to Swindon
Will May clash with anything?
like festivals or such and such?
not for me
Or me!
hoorah!
ATP vs the fans...
is May 18th - 20th but that would be too late anyway.
The Dirty Three one is 27th - 29th April.
Is anyone going to either?
I'm going to 'vs the fans'
But as I said it would be too late for me.
First weeks in may then?
for this footballing odyssey?
YES
I'm very serious about this.
Me too!!
I hope everyone else is as well.
I can't very well back out now
given that it was my stupid idea in the first place
i'd certainly be up for something like this.
as an Arsenal supporter, the only league fixture i've ever actually seen is Barnet vs Northampton. Finished 2-3, despite Dougie Freedman's best efforts.
Have you never seen Arsenal then :-O
*?
nope
unless you count Paul Merson's testimonial and watching an away game on a big screen at Highbury.
it's too expensive/hard to get tickets!
RIGHT!!!!!
whoever is interested, PM me your email address and I will get cracking on organising this. The sooner we start the better and all that.
WE HAVE 8!!!
I consider that perfect for a minibus. I'm off home now, I'll email you all tomorrow.
is that including the driver?
Yes
