Best way to quit smoking

stubryce [Edit] [Delete] 40 replies 15:04, 2 January '07

I don't smoke, but someone I love does. She want's to give up, but it's a addiction, she has been smoking for 6 years now. Anyone got any ideas?

  • at work

i drink out of a bottle of water. or go and get coffees in when i feel like smoking.

try and avoid pubs if there will be other smokers there (less of a problem once the ban starts).

        or you'll never give up

  • Friend

of mine tried the stuff, turned out he was allergic to it. Developed rashes and swellings and all sorts.

    I'm sure it was just a one-off

    • Tell her to wait for the smoking ban to come in

and her work will pay for her to get quitting help/patches and give her time off to get over it.

      • TIME OFF TO GET OVER SMOKING?

        WTF?

what a joke! is that true?

        sarkyfox @TheoGB | 2 Jan '07, 15:13 | X
        • weird

i can understand people being given time off work for alcoholism / drug addiction, but smoking is hardly in the same league as far as effects go...

          guntrip @sarkyfox | 2 Jan '07, 15:14 | X
          • For some people

the withdrawal can be just as bad as 'drug' addiction

            cunt @guntrip | 2 Jan '07, 15:18 | X
            • i meant more

in the way it affects your life when you're 'on' it, not the withdrawal.

although i was unaware of what you say. must be a tiny minority though?

              guntrip @cunt | 2 Jan '07, 15:21 | X
              • I don't get it too bad

but I know someone who freaked out when she tried to stop to the point where you couldn't talk to her.

                cunt @guntrip | 2 Jan '07, 15:25 | X
          • no seriously

that's a fucking joke. it's like letting them out for cigarette breaks. - it can be halfanhour-hour a day outside! what if i did that? and just sat outside for 'a rest'? i wouldn't be allowed.
            fucking *grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*

    • Nicorette gum for a week

then regular chewing gum for 2 weeks. It worked for me the first time, then I did the idiotic thing of smoking again but I'm off them again since yesterday.

    • allen carr book worked for Mr Slicky

try to have a distraction so every time she thinks of smoking do something that'll take the couple of minutes or more for it to pass..make tea, go for a walk, have a shower, have sex

make her remember how horrible it was when starting smoking, it is a struggle to actually start and makes you smell, with yellow teeth, wrinkly and suchlike

        • My Mum asked me to give up

She's never asked me before in the 12 years she's known I've smoked, but 3 days before Christmas she was diagnosed with serious heart problems, due in main, to smoking.

Strangely, for the first time in my life, I'm doing really well at this quitting lark.

          • woah

            i gotta stop to.

zyban though, urgh one of the side effects is de-personalisation. and its fucking horrible. you foget who you are.
which im sure for some of you would be an incentive , but nah its nasty.
