weird, yeah ? Or is it just me ?
I love you.
I would probably notice.
I mean: god?
think about it
I would say
I always wipe my feet when I enter someone's house.
Shoes have been through all sorts of (both metaphorical and literal) shit.
when they enter mine. I don't ask them to.
even when my shoes are on they take em off.
if you've ever had to clear up dog poo from a shag pile carpet. OK its a bit worrying if you have smelly socks. but I see no problem with this, having no shoes on also gives you feedback in case you are standing on the houseowners babies fingers/toes, cats tail, something that is missed when you are wearing shoes and are deaf
but, if it's middle-England middle-calss hippies then they are beyong contempt.
because your friends can't be bothered to take 5 seconds out of their busy schedules to take their shoes off is beyond contempt?
and isn't middle-England kind of contradictory to hippies? or have I misunderstood?
oh, you're taking the piss. now i feel silly.
piss is cleaner than spit
I don't like having to hoover or tidy up after other people. It's a small gesture of respect really
when i was about 15 i was embarrassed that my parents always made my friends take their shoes off, when they came into the house. one day at lunchtime they were out. and a few friends came round for lunch and to play sensible world of soccer. i was too embarrassed to tell them to take their shoes off. i thought it was a sad thing to do.
on the way back to school, one of my friends told me, laughing, that he'd stood in dog shit on the way to my house.
i had to clear it up before my parents got back.
from then on, i made sure people took their shoes off.
but it had a moral and everything...
me of that scene in 'drop dead fred' where he smears dog poo all over the chair.
i wish i'd had an imaginary friend as cool as fred. mine just told me to line up all the toy soldiers in the fort to protect us in case baddies attacked during the night.
and to clean up dog shit :(
an imaginary friend. that was just your conscience.
it's not fair.
with white carpets and then watch as people walk in with their muddy shoes on... then maybe youll understand.
a fucking nice flat.
it's just the done thing.
if you have white carpets and don't want them to look like a polar bear that's been rolling in shit, then fine.
my view: it usually takes more than just the insistence that you take shoes off upon entry to the house to confirm that the householders are anally retentive. it's ok if you don't want to have to clean the carpet too often: that just seems like common sense. it's not ok, though, if you put sodding cling-film or newspaper on all your new furniture (as some people my mother used to spend time with have been known to do).
in fact, people who DON'T take their shoes off when entering someone else's house are kinda rude, i think.
but almost certainly middleclass.
