surveilance/online privacy at work

Brooner [Edit] [Delete] 13 replies 15:51, 21 December '06

do you know what your organisation monitors and you worry about it at all?

i was rooting around on our server today and found software to record and monitor msn conversations & such like. I expect most companies to record your web browsing activity but was somewhat surprised by this. Now i don't really use msn much at work but now i'm even less inclined to!

    • same here

and I wouldn't even now how to look for monitoring software. If they did check, i'd be long gone by now.

      • software cannot be installed on our machines

        everything is monitored.

But it is onyl checked if there is cause for concern. That's with most places.

My last work place could check emails

        • er

every work place can check emails, most places don't bother with internet access because it's far too much hassle to maintain, so if they do they make a big song and dance over it.

    • My work

records all of our internet usage and you can't delete your history which is irritating. Every time you get a 'this website is blocked' hand, it's added to a little record upstairs

They monitor our emails, different words have different scores for example cocaine would score 5, shit would score 3. If you score 3 or over the email is not delivered (or accepted from outside) if you score 10 someone looks at it (apparently).

I think they must be understaffed though...
