said she didn't know she was preggers.
"A 15-year-old girl gave birth at her Catholic school after arriving for lessons "in some distress".
It is understood the girl was unaware that she was pregnant.
She gave birth in a medical room before lessons began on Friday morning, a school spokesman said.
The unnamed year 11 pupil, who is studying for her GCSEs at St Joseph's Catholic College in Bradford, West Yorkshire, went into labour at the start of the school day.
An ambulance was called but the girl had already given birth by the time it arrived.
John Grady, spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Leeds, said the birth was "not an everyday occurrence".
He said: "It is something that will be talked about for some time but we are just happy that the girl is OK, the baby is OK, and hopefully they will be home this weekend and spend Christmas at home.
"It is not going to help to go moralising on the whole situation. That is not important, what is important is that the child and the baby are fine and everything is being done for them and their parents."
He added: "At this time we hope that everyone will give all of them time to adjust to the new circumstances and allow space for them to make plans for the future."
Mr Grady said the headteacher had met the girl's mother and preparations had already been made for the girl to return to school and continue with her education.
He said the staff and the headteacher had spoken to the other pupils about the situation to offer them guidance.
"Children are very resilient, they will have taken it in their stride," he said.
He would not confirm whether the baby was a girl or a boy.
St Joseph's is an all-girl Roman Catholic comprehensive school with about 1,000 pupils located near Bradford city centre.
An Ofsted report carried out in November last year said: "Pupils enter the college with above-average levels of attainment and maintain these in national tests and examinations in Years 9 and 11 and in the sixth form.
"Pupils' personal development and well-being are strengths of the college. Pupils feel safe and are encouraged to lead healthy lifestyles.""
