aronofskys new film
i cant decide whether from the trailers it looks amazing or crap, but im mega excited.
Do hope so
he sound change it to that
I'm excited about this too! I think the trailer looks shit, but in an ace kind of way....um
more amazing if it was something TOTALLY different.
Like 'brush' or 'sparrow'
I think it's going to be lame.
I hope it is.
it'll be the kind of film that divides opinions loads though, because it is slow-paced, philosophical and there arent any massive explosions.
personally i think it will be ACE, and Mogwai are doing the soundtrack with the Kronos Quartet :D
and more leaning towards the action genre.
That's why I'm scared it's going to be lame.
Though I haven't really read that much about it since the big-budget version got canned...
no way this is going to be an action film. no chance.
*goes and watches trailer again*
not action at all. in fact the trailer emphasises the actiony bits.
I predict a further slide down the credibility scale for a director with too much money and ego on his hands. I am open to being pleasantly surprised though.
some people love it
and some people love it
I know I've said my piece about this on here before, but for me Aronofsky's ambition far outweighs his ability. Pi was a promising debut, certainly, but Requiem for a Dream was just so tacky and melodramatic - exactly the sort of film you'd expect from someone with a great sense of visual style and next to no understanding of theme, character, subtext...
I think his main problem is that he's just an awful writer, to be honest. He lacks any sense of the absurdity of his own material to the point where it becomes either LOL-worthy or just plain creepy - witness the ending montage in Requiem particularly. I can see The Fountain being another absolutely monumental work of hubris, but like I said - I'll reserve judgement until I see it.
but i thought the ending of requiem was breathtakingly brilliant
doesn't look my cup of tea at all. Big money + fancy SFX + action = a bit dull, actually.
Big money? its only about 20 million, which is relatively small these days
action? huh? what action?
because it isnt CGI at all, its all microbiology + chemical reactions apparently
But it still looks expensive and action packed to me. But what do I know?
still looks pish to me.
movie looks superb...i am also excited about babel and off the black
to cost 70 M when Brad Pitt was meant to play...
Then he didn't and the cost were downsized...
Jackman is great.
The movie is... unequal.
Because the latter would suggest it's fucking excellent but is a strange piece of phrasing.
the 'future' part isn't very good...
it online. someone posted a link to the website a few weeks ago.
i want to see it but i'm almost scared to given the panning it got from critics. still, it's aronofsky so it's got be worth a look.
I never bothered with requiem as from all accounts it was even more grindingly depressing than Dancer in the Dark and that film was enough to sink me into a deep pit of despair.
