failed in what?
i have no problem with who lives next door to me and so long as other people agree, multiculturalism will not fail.
I'm a multicultural baby and I'm doing quite well thank you very much.
multiculturalism is fantastic and should be everyone's goal, but we need to guard against segregated communities. because if that happens, we'll have a nation which has lots of cultures in it, but isn't multicultural.
i hope people understand that last sentence.
have done fuck all to help multiculturalism in this country, but i'm not going to go on about it.
There is a fine line between multicultarlism and segmented societies.
On the whole, I think that Britain has done very well. It's not perfect (and probably never well be due to our imperfect nature), but it's a good start.
sure it's grand. You get arseholes in every culture but nice people too
what you mean by Multi-cultural...
how can the ideology of a soceity with different cultures fail?
should a society have an ideology?
not a society's ideology.
There should've been commas in my last post.
what's the difference?
and its' not clear to me that multiculturalism was a 'project' with an identifiable 'goal' ... it's too difficult to pass judgement on whether or not it has achieved its objectives since none have been really publically identified.
To what extent did the formation of the New Left represent a break with pre-existing left traditions and assumptions?
in some respects no.
That's the kind of answer that gets you a 2:1 at uni kids.
and less identity driven, i guess?
i made the distinction between 'integrationist' multiculturalism and 'segregationist' multiculturalism.
so yes, in short.
until people like Blair and their damned local councils have started their social engineering- look what happened in France....
with KKK-style views on multiculturalism. Even my stepdad, a traditional media-influenced racist, has many, many friends of all races and nationalities because of his work as a coach driver on international tours. The reason why he is racist is because of media coverage of governmental decisions about multiculturalism.
Because a lot of the trouble is, as you say, interfering 'damned local councils' who constantly make bumbling decisions and then get accused by the Daily Mail of 'banning Christmas'. These councils are the racists: they're so scared of minorities they don't treat them like normal people. Is it racist to assume that people from other minorities are hypersensitive and humourless, as these councils do? I think it is.
And then, there's the kind of planning that leads to incidents like the incident at Ruckhill in Glasgow, where (according to my girlfriend) loads and loads of refugees were taken to a notorious part of Glasgow overnight, and were greeted with nice, done-up flats with all mod cons.
This would have been great, except:
a) the refugees didn't have a clue where they were being taken
b) the refugees weren't given any guidance as to what to do when they got there: they were just plonked there.
c) the refugees weren't given any guidance as to how to USE what was in their flats.
d) the existing residents didn't get their flats done up, too, which caused instant racism and resentment.
e) the existing residents were not given any information that this would happen, and so didn't have any arrangements in place to welcome the new arrivals - quite the opposite, in fact.
So you have baying racists on the one side, and scared, baffled refugees who don't understand what they've done wrong on the other.
If my girlfriend's account of this is true, then WAY TO GO, RETARD GOVERNMENT. it beggars belief.
