how many people in this country know anything about politics? heres my (very rough/rubbish) way of working it out.
at my school we were taught NOTHING about politics, until A level (there were 16 people in my politics class). so, out of the entire year group (200ish people), only about 8% (maths?) were given even the slightest political knowledge. given also that my school had a fairly high rate of A level takers, this would be less in other schools. then, how many years has A level politics been open to the entire school population? obviously you have people that are interested in politics who dont study it, so add them to my crappy maths.
basically - when are we going to start teaching our children important things like this instead of ox-bow lakes?
