I just finished watching The Return of the King on TV and it just really brought it home to me how utterly disappointed I was by the whole affair, and what seething animosity I will bear towards Peter Jackson until the end of my days.
It was my favourite book ever when I was a child, and as the series went on I was increasingly disgusted at how that greasy, corpulent man could trample on my dreams.
Granted, the set and costume design is for the most point spot on, but almost everything else is simply pathetic.
The general pacing of the whole story - awful.
Absolutely pointless bits ADDED into the story to make it more elaborate/confusing/mawkish.
The script - yes, Tolkien's original dialogue was over the top, but whenever the writers attempted to add anything in it sticks out like a sore thumb.
The score - almost unbelievably execrable. They had the opportunity to make it spooky, otherworldly and exciting. What do we get? A load of fucking stock action film soundtrack string bollocks.
The casting - a few notable exceptions aside (e.g. Ian McKellen, and surprisingly, Elijah Wood) fucking appalling.
The general point behind the whole story - lost
I could go on...
