Do you lot make flyers? Photoshop or scissors n pritt stick?
we got pretty good at it. even with just paint sometimes!
photoshop all the way.
and id use illustrator if only i could get hold of it
did illustrator not come with your photoshop?
i only got photoshop and it was a copy so its a bit weird...
it's so modern
I was just proud of my flyer.
I use fireworks. Creating fantasic things only for management to RUIN by saying they need corporate logos and special text and more ehinic minorities and blahblahARGHY
I likes it, keep them simple.
it makes them go off with a bang!
is that what you were after?
thanks for making the pun for me. I couldn't think of one. For shame
I used to have to use that at in my old job, it just seemed like a rubbisher version of photoshop.
It was fun for drawing in though.
I like your flyer, John.
is too poor for photoshop, well you can get elements if you BEG otherwise it's fireworks or paint so i have learned to love it.
In fairness I think I was just bitter because they wouldn't give me photoshop.
Like the Fighting Cocks but worse.
www.freemacfonts.com is ace
arial is very basic.
what i do is go through all of them. then all of them bold. them all of them italic. then both together. some look really different when bold and italic
but i doo like fonts!
a font fetish
i print them out and put them in a little book.
not feet btw.
try sticking to just one or two different types, and instead experiment with different weights. but don't go too mad. they seem a little over designed, but the second one is vastly superior.
the second has too much writing. WORDS ARE SHIT.
it's all about empty spaces and pictures...
John that looks ace!
Teach me :)
The actual Brand Identity of DiS and thus IMHO shit. You basically went off and did whatever you liked without even thinking of the actual brand. Lazy!
Just my opinion.
And aimed at people who don't know the site (people who read it will know about any gigs coming up).
i guess i'm too brainwashed into the whole brand thing.
I still think he should have incorperated the correct branding.
don't listen to that curmudgeon there ^^^
posters are entirely different to websites, so there's no need to keep a brand identity.
I work in the industry. Brand identity is massivly important. If you have differing identity across a multitude of formats, all you are doing is diluting the brand and causing confusion.
Why do big blue chip companies spend millions on IDs? Not to have some fool fuck around with it.
not to re-enforce DiS brand identity.
if you did a gig poster with the graphics of this site it'd be too slick for the what it's designed for.
there's a certain identity amongst gig adverts that is more important than making a brand. i think.
DiS isn't really trying to be a brand though is it? it's not got a budget of millions to spend. and probably doesn't want it.
the site is pretty divorced from the gigs really. whereas a brand needs that cross pollination.
have the dis logo and the top strip from the site ran along the top of any posters? Not hard at all.
If it was my decision i would keep the branding, but it ain't so fuck it.
i think that with gigs of this size the whole diy aesthetic is really important. as soon as theres any sign of branding then it falls apart and looks fake.
i would have still got the logo in there somewhere though. And a couple of Pirates for good measure.
All DiS has as an idendity is the banner at the top isnt it?
I wasn't asked to put the logo on them (I tried it, but it didnt look right), and I didnt wanna copy the design of the top banner.
how could you be stealing it if it was for DiS?
but i do agree with marco. i remember being confused and unimpressed when those flyers were used. they do look very good tho.
one of my fave fancy fonts
... I actually prefer the first flyer. Looks less corporate and polished.
flyer is lacking in comic sans tho.
i give it 5/10.
either way i would dislike you sober
not h8 though, h8 is unnecessary
