The new Holland kit is INCREDIBLE!
2-1 to Holland prediction
With that guy who looks like the Pub Landlord up front?
2-0 to Holland.
The universe would implode if Darren Anderton turned up to a match fully fit.
I think the around end of the 90s, Darren Anderton actually played more minutes than Roy Keane over a spell of about five seasons.
I was surprised when I heard that fact.
it's not on my telly channels
Sweden just lost a miserable 1-0 to Ivory Coast
I get to watch Switzerland v Brazil in a bit though
Brazil vs Switzerland. That's a paradox, no? Will it be really exciting or really boring?
boring game too
I'd rather be watching England v Holland
Kaka pounces on an atrocious defensive mix-up to score one of the easiest goals of his career
Well put away.
I like it.
..."the corridor of uncertainty"
Why you bring anal sex into this?
sweet jesus, this is surreal.
England deserved what just happened.
After an entire half of letting Holland have possession despite Holland not appearing to care whether they won or not, England conceded a ridiculous goal.
It says a lot that England's attacking presense was mostly provided by Ashley Cole.
the Swiss have pulled it back to 2-1 thanks to a clumsy own goal from Brazil
Really craptacular. If Holland had been awake, they could have walked all over them.
In much more exciting news - did you catch Giants vs Da Bears the other day. Great game, even though I had New York to win.
has that Mr Invisible impression down to a fine art.
Oh, was he playing tonight?
we have to live with, the thing is he'll probably scrape us into the next championships then we'll fail miserably and then he resigns, something to look forward to.
Is it repeated?
why was Johnson playing on the right for most of the game? Have no lessons been learnt from his last appearance?
I'm saying no - seeing as the lesson was "Who the fuck is Johnson? Don't play him."
I think if he was played in a central position he would do well.
he should be playing striker with rooney savagiung the defense the way he likes to so much.
In slow motion?
people in McLaren's position would have started Johnson to be honest.
After not missing an England game for about 5 years or something equally as ridiculous I have now missed two in a row.
Johnson just didn't fall over enough...
but the formation looked a bit silly.
Why can't England managers seem to accept the simple fact that you have to pick a balanced team not just pick the 11 best players, regardless of position, and then try and put square pegs in round holes.
I think Cole can play on the left but I do think the team would be better with a proper right-winger with a choice being made about whether Gerrard or Lampard shoudl start in the centre.
Other countries will leave world-class players on the bench if there's someone else in their place on the pitch who's better still. So why do we have to try to play every good attacking midfielder we have? It just doesn't work.
to drop Lampard and move Gerrard into the centre.
And, let's be completely honest, why should Gerrard be picked over Lampard at the moment anyway?
(current form aside) Steven Gerrard is a god.
I believe he's at least twice as good.
With everyone available our current midfield 4 should be:
Joe Cole (mainly through a lack of naturally left-sided alternatives)
I think we're going to be shit for another 5 years.
that was directed at Steven Gerrard.
he'll get sacked when we don't qualify for Euro 2008. And I genuinely believe we won't.
WRONG! It's actually Zlatan Imbrahimovic.
a friend who raves about him. But then again this man did also say that Keiran Richardson was 'good', eurgh.
probably still playing CM 00/01. He was great on that.
Frank Lampard seems to have no desire to play for England whatsoever.
E A S Y.
who HAS been playing well for England during the last year? If you ask me (ASK ME BITCHES) not one player has made a consistent account of himself
Personally, as England manager, I'd pick a player who has scored seven goals from centre midfield so far this season over a player who is out of form and stuck on the right. But hey, that's just me
say that Hargreaves has played well for England for 12 months. He had a good World Cup but was wasted as an impact player when Sven brought him on in the qualifiers.
I think Gerrard is an absolute hero. I just think that for England you need to pick players to occupy their club role for the country, and at present Lampard is a much better option in terms of form
Micah Richards today?
Strong, quick, good defensively.
but it does sound like more of the same. No idea what to do with Lampard and Gerrard (admittedly Gerrard being pissed off and stuck on the right at Liverpool isn't helping).
Johnson on the right? How would that ever be a good idea, I like Johnson and think he and Rooney could be a good partnership. I'd like to see someone come in up front and do well so Mr One Dimensional Owen doesn't walk straight back into the team.
He hasn't played a good game for England in about three years. Kevin Nolan deserves a chance in the squad and Darren Bent more of a chance. Also Scott Parker and Gareth Barry (unless he is Irish or something.) Beckham should really probably be in the squad too.
Then Lampard should have been dropped anyway, with Cole on the left, Gerrard in the middle and Carrick playing a holding role.
I'd like to see Gareth Barry and Nolan in the squad, was Jenas in this squad? Every time I see his name in an England squad a small part of me dies
But forced to withdraw through injury. Though I am not entirely sure.
gender essentialism. Mainly because I was born with a buttercup instead of a willy
to see if I like butter?
or why they were where they were. Johnson did his best, but who the fuck thinks playing him on the right wing is a good idea? Despite the fact we had three attackers, we managed to piece together about four decent attacks all game, and the passing was miserable. We have ALWAYS worked best in 4-4-2 - English players simply haven't got enough time together to gel around new formations. The only reason why Sven and McClaren keep trying out all this shapeless shit is because of that one jammy fluke against Argentina last World Cup but one.
In other news, we a) need a new goalkeeper kit and b) need a new goalkeeper.
that there are some small positives to be drawn:
richards looks useful, and if you ask me should be trusted fully and just given the position for a run of games. get him experience at the highest level.
neville is increasingly uneffective, so we may as well replace him now when it doesn't really matter.
lampard has never justified his place and should be dropped.
you have to play to rooney's advantage. which means giving him people ahead to pass to. and not crowding the areas he wants to play in. which probably means no joe cole on the left, and certainly johnson through the middle.
BUT. rooney did play well yesterday, and i'm sure if the tactics had been more geared to his game then he could control it.
ESSENTIALLY, you have to look at the team and say that Gerrard and Rooney are the two players that would make a world team, so you have to build around them.
the defence is fine (although i remain unconvinced about just how good terry actually is, and i think ashley cole is a lazy cunt)
so really if the midfield is built around gerrard, and the strikeforce around rooney there should be no problems.
by EVERY team in the world.
I think he is playimg well enough at the moment.
but him and gerrard can't play together. lampard tries too much.
really we need scholes back...
we drew away to Holland, we made them look weak, it's not a bad result. Rooney looks better and better every time I see him play for England; Ferdinand, Gerrard, and both Coles are all at the top of their game. Of course we're going to qualify- we have this slump at about the same time during every European qualifier, we always bounce back. Who's going to qualify above us? Russia? Not a chance.
i think ashley cole is lazy and disinterested for england, reliable defensively i suppose, but doesn't do enough going forward.
which he really needs to if we play a right footer on the left.
and i think all joe cole did last night on the left was fall over. he was pretty good on when he drifted i guess...
funny about that pitch, we seemed to spend a lot of time falling over, it was all the ref's fault, etc. etc. Ashley Cole didn't show his best last night, but even then he was always exactly where he needed to be. The reason I would keep Joe Cole is because he's both dangerous and flexible; a standard defence doesn't know what to do with him.
I am astonished Lennon didn't play though.
I thought I saw him on the bench.
i just want cole to be overlapping so that he can play quick left footed balls round the corner.
and he doesn't seem to as much as he used to. but he defends better.
i also think that there's an argument that joe cole does rooney's job but worse, and that rooney'd be better with someone else out wide.
but there clearly isn't anyone good enough...
