...what was the last one you did?
(fed up of all the :( threads tonight)
to a twelve year old*
*not strictly true. at all
I tend to spend a lot of time listenign to people's problems when they're drunk. Does that count?
because that makes the entire DiS social board one big heap o' altruism
I do this quite a lot too. Everyone has problems, some people just feel the need to tell you when drunk. It's more a patience thing than altruism
I've subsequently developed this by writing songs about wishing I didn't have to. If the song makes me any money I'm no longer altruistic am I? Doh.
But I think I am pretty altruistic by nature anyway. And I'm sure I do loads of things I can't think of right now. Recently I allowed myself to miss the last tube home in order to keep someone company. I guess that counts.
probably never, even if I had meant to do an altruistic deed it has probably always been for me deep down, even if only to make myself feel good about myself if that makes sense?
i agree with you.
up at 6am yesterday to walk the two miles to uni to catch a coach into London to protest about the cap being taken off fees, that was fairly altruistic- i mean i can't change my situation my fees are set but i represented future generation students i hope. :)
because i thought maybe i could contribute something to make you smile but make me delay going to bed
a house. seriously.
–adjective 1. unselfishly concerned for or devoted to the welfare of others (opposed to egoistic).
2. Animal Behavior. of or pertaining to behavior by an animal that may be to its disadvantage but that benefits others of its kind, often its close relatives.
Like the other day when a guy had left his parking ticket that still had time left on it for the next person who came along to use. This is altruistic.
a man being deported and seperated from his wife and children. i'm altruistic all day.
If so, does that count?
it is not altruistic if it benefits you in any way
quite easily. but he doesn't. this is a good thing, though not in itself enough.
i did my job unpaid for ages
when i was drunk i went and spoke to this homeless guy on the street and explained his options to him, told him where he could use the phone for free and contact me at work. and he did and how he isn't homeless.
it's not in my job description to approach tramps and help them.
i would say so...unless you only did it because it wasnt a great sandwich...
sounds like an AMAZING sandwich, what was in this beast of a sandwich exactly?
for that deed
were doing an altruistic thing by dying for you. Almost like Jesus.
its all about survival of the fittest...eat or be eaten and all that Darwinist stuff. you were clearly fitter than the bacon...i'm not wholly sure my reasoning makes any sense...mon dieu
he wasn't a walking oinking rasher :(
'he wasn't wanking an oinking rasher'
is better to be a human dissatisfied than a pig satisfied.
when I wasn't gonna use a travelcard but the last time I went up to someone (who was in the process of buying one from a machine at the time) to give them my valid travelcard for free they thought I was trying to sell them it for crack.
Eventually they took it and the awkwardness was over.
This is why I don't bother.
Reading about it has kept me entertained on long train journeys back to Uni.
for this thread to get more than39 stinking replies?!
in ripping each other apart.
I can't think of any specifically altrustic deeds i have performed lately, but i think i am very good at listening to people and generally being nice to them when they need it.
as i figured i only do stuff to benefit me most of the time.
it makes me feel better about myself as a person, good karma innit.
on the bus on Sunday. Several phone calls later I tracked down the owner and got it back to her boyfriend within a few hours. Would like to think someone would do the same for me one day - opposed to the bastard who made £250 worth of calls to Nigeria the last time I lost my mobile.
off the internet.
