"right" or "wrong" ?
is better than the second.
They're awesome, i just got the double CD today.
the live disc is great
it's the first album and the Live album together- £5 on amazon. YAY.
If you think you're better off dead fair enough.
you can't generalise it at all.
there shouldn't be any more moral dimension attached to it than dieing of any other illness.
death from cancer: right or wrong?
think you can really say it's either right or wrong.
Or maybe you can. But I'd say you can't. And no, I'm not intelligent enough to back up my answer with reasons. So screw you all.
most of the time, that's the only honest way to answer a moral question
I don't think it's right to make a moral judgement about it. It's such a terribly sad private thing.
but it happens when someone believes there's no-one left in the world who can help them, doesn't it? It's an awful thing to happen, but you can't judge people for feeling like that.
how can it be wrong doing? it's illness taking it's toll.
i'm merely pointing out that the phrase JUST their wrong doing is one which judges and condemns them.
which i personally find morally reprehensible.
you are condemning. you say quite explicitly that it is wrong.
that is a moral condemnation.
i find that morally dubious.
but morals are obviously entirely personal and that
but THERE MUST BE SOMETHING
so to make any judgement is to an extent always ignorant.
a ludicrous response.
there's nothing remotely laughable about anything i've said.
and you're frankly not coming across well.
so leave it.
i don't care what you think anymore
a lack of knowledge.
either way he isn't at all ignorant.
Hence why it was "right" or "wrong". It was meant to be a really vague question.
It also appalls and upsets me when people talk about it as a joke. It's not.
My statement was just general. I feel the same about things like self harm. They aren't jokes and people who have to deal with issues like this in real life aren't either.
it's not really something to be looked at in disgust
Ive known a lot of people like that, and theyre generally dicks in their personality overall, so I dont tend to hang out with them.
But surely sometimes it really IS a cry for help ? Maybe they are in as much pain as the people who dont show it ? Its just their way of dealing with it.
surely that proves that there is something wrong with them and they want help?
was that you seemed to believe that only the people who cut and hide it are the people who are suffering
you had two friends who each cut themselves and showed it off but both said that the other wasn't in pain?
how does this affect your opinion?
until you are in that situation
talk about it.
what's to understand? it's basically self-mutilation. with sharp objects n that.
the ones who do it and then show people are not all "completely disgusting", in some respect surely you can see that they are potentially suffering more? sure, not all of them and some do cut the surface then show everyone, but surely you can see past your apparent anger with them and see that they are not happy?
self mutilation has a long history as part of tribal distinction...
THOUGH I DON'T AGREE WITH IT AT ALL.
i really don't want an e-argument because they are stupid and normally petty
we had a lot of fun
a response to this is totally personal, dependent upon religious sway...i'm sure as a majority of people around here appear to be atheists they cant really have an objection to suicide...i think...
I can't say how much I disagree to this statement.
thats not what i meant. i mean they wont hold a set belief either way, whilst with christianity for instance suicide under any circumstances is straight up wrong. whilst an atheist may say, in the case of terminal illness etc then its ok...does that make sense...i'm not explaining myself very well.
yes_'s name sets an unhealthy example. He may as well call himself 'do_it!'
I think we should all get sponsorship deals. Like the start of programmes on TV. This prole-art-threat post was brought to you by the Oxford English Dictionary.
*this post was brought to you by Green & Blacks*
actually know anything about it.
My favourite part of this thread is the bit where we start trying to define which mental illnesses are "disgusting" and which are "serious pain". Extraordinary.
Sickening and shameful.
From what you have been saying you dont know anything about it. And I cant be fucked to discuss it with you. I have a fun evening planned and I dont want to get worked up in an internet argument.
I hope you have a nice evening too :)
it shouldn't be a competition to see 'who knows more about depression and is therefore right'. You can have opinions on something even if you haven't been directly involved in it, and people can disagree with your opinions even if you have.
For the record, I have a lot of experience of depression, and thankfully very little of suicide. This doesn't preclude me from commenting on it.
how it would frustrate someone?
but thanks anyway
but it's not clear on here who has experience of what, I wouldn't like to guess.
I would say that the aforementioned "people" are the selfish ones.
I completely agree with nice_squirrel. An opinion on suicide should not be disregarded if the person airing their views is fortunate enough to never have experienced such a situation
My two cents is that for many suicide could well be the final opportunity to have some control over their lives. What greater control over your own life can you have than to end it when you feel that is the best/only option for you?
Whether or not somebody else feels that it is cowardly/selfish is pretty much irrelevant in my eyes. I can appreciate the absolutely horror a suicide must cause for the loved ones involved. It must be tragic. But then losing a loved one always is, regardless of the consequences of their death. But I can equally see the comfort that can be taken from knowing that that person is, in their own eyes, now at peace
cos u totally knew what YOU were talking about.
