    • he's literally the

only bad thing in "good will hunting". luckily he doesn't bring that film down from "masterpiece" level though.

      team_cooper @wishpig | 20 Oct '06, 00:20 | X
      • I like Affleck in GWH

he can be a solid actor...

        fullerov @team_cooper | 20 Oct '06, 00:21 | X
      • really?

i thought it was firmly in the "Oh dear Robin Williams is being earnest again" category.

        i-deserve-to-be-in-your-band @team_cooper | 20 Oct '06, 00:21 | X
        • but, his cardigans!!

          team_cooper @i-deserve-to-be-in-your-band | 20 Oct '06, 00:22 | X
        • GWH

          is an ok film...

          Not a masterpiece. Maybe 7/10

          fullerov @wishpig | 20 Oct '06, 00:23 | X
          • that interviw must be

the nail in the coffin of his career. surely?

            chris-budget @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 00:24 | X
            • WHAT????

Even if i disliked him, I would hardly suggest his career is over.

              That's just silly.

              fullerov @chris-budget | 20 Oct '06, 00:26 | X
              • i wasn't paying attention

                carry on!

                chris-budget @wishpig | 20 Oct '06, 00:31 | X
                • Affleck is tipped for the

                  2007 oscars.

                  fullerov @chris-budget | 20 Oct '06, 00:33 | X
              • Actually

I like it more than that. 8/10

                Elliott Smith...

                fullerov @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 00:25 | X
              • Matt Damon

                I_Are_Scientist @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 00:26 | X
              • Ah, "earnest" Robin Williams

One of my deepest, darkest secrets is that Dead Poets Society is one of my favourite films...

GWH is above average at best.

                Smileadelic @i-deserve-to-be-in-your-band | 20 Oct '06, 00:27 | X
                • worst?

                  fullerov @Smileadelic | 20 Oct '06, 00:28 | X
                  • Nope

                    Definitely best :-)

                    Smileadelic @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 00:30 | X
                    • Hmm

depends on what you call above average.

I like it...sure it is sentimental. Sentimental doesn't HAVE to mean bad...

                      fullerov @Smileadelic | 20 Oct '06, 00:32 | X
                      • Exactly

Hence my aforementioned Dead Poets Society love...

I just think GWH is a pretty typical movie of Ron Howard-era Hollywood to be honest. Well-made and well-intentioned but without an awful lot to say.

                        Smileadelic @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 00:34 | X
                        • I don't think

films should neccassarily HAVE something to say.

Surely sometimes a film can be just pure entertainment.

Ssying that I would say that GWH DOES have more of a meaning than most films as succesful as it.

GWH will always be cool with me cos it got Van Sant AND Elliott Smith oscar nominations.

                          fullerov @Smileadelic | 20 Oct '06, 00:37 | X
                          • Interesting point

I've always thought that the best "entertaining" films are entertaining purely because they actually have something to say, though. Their entertainment factor comes in part from having a grain of "truth" at their core.

At any rate, I do agree that GWH is a better film than most of its similarly successful peers.

                            Smileadelic @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 00:50 | X
                            • I like films a lot

And I would agree at least in part.

However I have been entertained by some films PURELY because of the films content.

Repo Man for example is one of my absolute favorite films, there is no 'truth in it though. Just a cool film.

                              fullerov @Smileadelic | 20 Oct '06, 00:57 | X
                              • REPO MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm totally going to watch this again RIGHT NOW

or at least when this side of vinyl ends

                                YES

                                i-deserve-to-be-in-your-band @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 00:58 | X
                                • DO IT

I love that film more than I love....um....

                                  well most things.

                                  fullerov @i-deserve-to-be-in-your-band | 20 Oct '06, 01:00 | X
                              • That's true, too

For example, one cannot deny the obvious greatness of Caddyshack ;-)

                                Smileadelic @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 01:02 | X
                          • to be honest

i love good will hunting, i think its totally above average, the script is pretty good as hollywood goes, theres only a couple of scenes which i really dislike, but saying that i do have a softspot for gus van sant and i think damon is a good actor, and definitely chooses his roles well, unlike affleck

                            sharp_yet_blunt @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 01:13 | X
                            • That is true.

                              No Gigli for Damon...

                              fullerov @sharp_yet_blunt | 20 Oct '06, 01:15 | X
              • HE THE BOMB IN PHANTOMS YO!

                  soapy @shucks | 20 Oct '06, 00:38 | X
              • I liked the begining og GWH

when they went to bars being all clever and getting in fights then robin williams comes in and ruins it. Didnt ben affleck co write it. I quite like him actually he is funny in kevin smith comentaries

                gay4conoroberst | 20 Oct '06, 00:35 | X
                • yes

                  him and Damon wrote it.

                  fullerov @gay4conoroberst | 20 Oct '06, 00:38 | X
                  • that's gold

                    pure gold

                    Jesus_Quintana @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 00:46 | X
                    • I reckon in 10/20 years

Affleck will come back as a decent actor.

At the moment he's got that whole smug thing which is all he can do. It works occasionally but only because of the genuine hate I have for him. He needs to do a Patrick Bateman role or something (and not an obvious "look I can play against type" thing like that mediocre one he did that I've forgotten the name of)

                      Jesus_Quintana @Jesus_Quintana | 20 Oct '06, 01:04 | X
                      • He has made a comeback

he is tipped for an oscar next year...

                        fullerov @Jesus_Quintana | 20 Oct '06, 01:05 | X
                        • he hasn't been away long enough yet

I want him to be a heroin addict, then go to rehab again, then get fat, then in 10+ year come back and be good.

                          Jesus_Quintana @fullerov | 20 Oct '06, 01:06 | X
                          • obvs the resolution is crap

but she looks like she fucking loves it
