Recommend me... some really cheesy European music

MirriLondon [Edit] [Delete] 56 replies 11:18, 18 October '06

I have to find one tune for each country, it must be 'upbeat and cheesy - get the kind of music that they'd be embarrassed was made by their own countries'. They've previously used Abba, The Ketchup Song, 99 Red Balloons, the Greek plate smashing song - stuff like that. I'm going to look at Eurovision sites when IT sort out my access rights, but I can't use just Eurovision entirely.

Pah.

France
Turkey
Spain
Germany
Switzerland
Sweden
Portugal
Italy
+ 'Middle East' - but you already gave me suggestions there

Also - any recommendations of where I can go to 1) listen to and 2) actually download this dodgy stuff is very much appreciated.

Good stuff like Royksopp and Sigur Ros just isn't going to be allowed :(

Didn't it say something about a "beep" and had some crazily shite sound effect?

I might have it on my iPod, somewhere.

                          • The story so far

                            Spain - enrique iglesias
Sweden - ace of bass or roxette
Italy - eiffel 65 (blue, da ba dee...)
France - daft punk - probably da funk or one more time

Still working on the others, plus a late new entry - the Netherlands.

Aznavour would be classic french. Or Piaf. Something with accordion.

entries in their own language is - I can't vet for crudeness/swearwords.

For a bunch of senior execs, I can't risk rude lyrics. Too many of them are bilingual too.

I don't think aznavour ever pushed the boundaries of taste to any great extent! ;D
