I'm pretty much computer illiterate. Because of my computers re-boot, I have no sound, how do I set upthe soundcard?
Are your speakers plugged in? Are they turned on? Are they connected to the right socket?
How about your PC, is that plugged in? Have you pressed the on button?
Have you woken up today? Are you asleep?
Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, No.
Good. Then we may proceed. Is your sound card internal (as in connected to the motherboard) or was it one you've bought and physically installed yourself?
And where is your disk full of drivers?
the volume turned up? on speakers and the pc?
And I have no idea.
Then the drivers should already have been installed when your operating system. Check your speakers are in the right port, that the control panel for the sound card isn't set to 'mute' and it should be cool.
Failing that, access the driver settings (control panel > system > hardware > device manager) and make sure there are no hardware conflicts or that your sound card is set to 'enabled'.
Then... it should be cool.
It's not letting me do that. The 'Use this device'box is grey and unclickable.
Head to the drivers tab. Try updating the driver.
Ok, I'll try.
been fiddling around with the insides of the computer? maybe a connection to your motherboard came loose.
yeah, earwigs. Nasty.
Says cannot update driver.
Why the shit not? Are you letting it connect to the internet? How about putting in the XP CD and letting it find drivers on there? How about manually selecting the windows/system or windows/system32 folders and letting it find drivers on there?
I'll try and ge tthe guy who sorted my computer out to come back round.
Cheers though dude.
