What a vastly underrated film, Cronenberg is a bit of a fav of mine
I always hear good things about it.
The thing is I know that Walken plays the hero and yet reading the book I would have totally put him in the villain's role, so I'm not sure if my brain could handle this. :D
I've never read the book. I know with alot of S. King books, the films really let them down, apart from The Shining perhaps. The suprise from the film is that it is actually very moving.
Hmm...well it essentially destroys the book but it's still a great film thanks to Kubrick. But the book is far better in terms of everything it is about.
The mini-Series that King wrote is a much better script but just with fairly duff actors/direction.
The Green Mile and Stand By Me probably represent the only really good King adaptations, from what I know. Obviously The Shawshank Redemption is a geat film but I don't know how well it realises the original story.
Truly awful King adaptations I've seen would include Salem's Lot and IT. Ugh!
also Cujo, Firestarter, Silver Bullet
is very bad. had to stop watching it was so bad
All King adaptations that he scripted himself are awful. All scripted by other people are not awful. Hmmmm.
