Needs a new songwritng partner to stretch him and match his (patchy at present) lyrical content
his lyrics are weaker than the tunes though at present so maybe he needs to retire or reform the smiths at this late stage. 'Ringleaders' is 'Quarry' leftovers - even Kill Uncle is better.
God did I just say that?
morrisey mean absolutely nothing to me. his tunes arent particuarly strong, i hate the really really really heavy guitar production and he comes across as a tosser.
" im just on a different plane, not superior or higher, just different" fuck off you smug twat.
I'm a life long Morrissey fan, however i can see how he could wind people up, but saying that, i'd rather that than some bland Keane-play supposed frontman with nowt to say!
What has Morrissey got to say? What has he ever had to say? What has come out of Morrissey's mouth that has improved mine or anyone's life? Shit all.
If I want some miserable dick pissing in my ear about subjects they imagine are much more important or profound than they really are, I'll go down to ANY school in the country and wait.
I can't say that too much of what has come out of anyone's mouth really improves lives.
those are the only two options in the entire world of music.
I quite like Kill Uncle...it's always slated. There is a place...Asian Rut, King Leer are stronger than Lazy Dykes, and most of Ringleaders except Dear God, The Youngest. I find the guitar work really unimaginative.
in a really irritating minor key as well, sounding like BoyRacers chorus - he needs to make some more funny noises to get me interested. His last good song was 'Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice'.
who do you rate 10 then?
# Talking Heads:
# Bob Dylan:
# The Beatles:
D. Voice has a bit of edge/grit and a good lyric
his backing band always offends me
like, that bassist
whats the point?
have the morrissey hair aswell. now thats annoying. oh god and they all dance like bernard sumner. stop!
for peevish white men at the end of the day - you always get the impression that real Moz fans don't like any other music and are probably deeply unpleasant in real life.
i'm referring to joyless 'hardcore' fans - which this could apply to any 'one band fan'
how about 'is morrissey good any more?'
to which i would answer - very infrequently.
was morrisey EVER any good. you wont change my mind
Its just that he's now offically an 'elder statesmen' but in the same way that Elton John is. The smiths when I was a teen meant the world but, you know life moves on and things just become contextual.
If that makes ANY sense!
DULLFACT: At glastonbury one year (2004?) I was in some tent where Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke were DJ-ing and they were playing old Smiths songs which made me think of the story about Harry Corbett still doing Sooty at the end of Blackpool Pier after his son had sold the Franchise for millions and kept the money for himself
for as long as it took me to write it.
why not take the time to explain why "relevent" is a stupid term?
but thanks for the tip.
seemed to criticise Campbell88's use of the word "relevant".
i just wrote a whole schpeel and it got RAILED! not writing it again
Is a different kettle of fish. I've enjoyed his last two solo albums but I'm aware that on the whole his solo albums have been patchy affairs, if your thinking of comparing them to the Smiths, don't bother. Its Moz solo, you know Johnny Marr isn't involved.
Relevant? Do you think he really gives a shite. He didn't care about relevance when he was at the top of his game. He is an interesting/beligerant character, a great vocalist, and at times a brilliant communicator. Who cares if the "kids" dig him?I don't.People got carried away with YATQ anyway, it coincided with a Smiths revival.
What matters is the body of work. The quality and consistancy of the Smiths work, pisses over pretty much every so called "indie" band around at this very moment. So he's done his bit. So For god sake don't reform the Smiths, it will be a pale shadow.
marr is a fully fledged member of modest mouse. lolorama.
he still writes interesting, funny, charming lyrics. the music can get a bit too pub-rock for me, let's face it musically morrissey has never been on a par with the smiths. but his whole style has changed with age, it'd be even more boring if he was insisting that his band knock out marr-by-numbers riffs.
i would like some faster numbers and less crooning ballads. but i'd probably still pay silly money to watch him do nothing at all.
morrissey is fun. hooray for morrissey. thats all i can be bothered writing now. havent had brekky yet!
album was incredibly bad, but I thought You Are The Quarry was a very good album.
Er, so, it's not that he's not 'relevant', he's no less 'relevant' than anyone else, but the fact that HE probably thinks he is better than he is at this moment in time, probably does grate with some people.
He is still capable of doing good stuff, but I think he lacks a little quality control, and he always has (Death At One's Elbow - for example).
Am I still talking?
I smelled Morrissey in my toilet this morning
but I loved the Smiths.....they were essential.
If I hear a new Morrisey song is out, I wouldnt go much out of my way to hear it.
I haven't really listened to recent lyrics because I find the music a bit dull.
However, I still like him because he is still arrogant and slightly pompous. He should always remain like that.
