yet i'm only downloading at a speed of about 34KB/s.
on one of those ISPs that restricts torrent download speeds, are you?
they've not restricted it in the past. if they're doing so now then i'm going to have to bitchslap them.
you've got the relecant TCP and UDP ports forwarded for your torrent client.
bt also blocks and 'squeezes' certain ports and protocols, so that could also be an issue.
This thread could have been about lots of things - it's a relief that it is so banal.
not for anything that isn't music it's not.
is good for me, i barely get over 30. maybe some of my settings are wrong?
what are you downloading? bitcomet is a better client than bittorrent i think, although im on aol now and cant seem to download that fast
last night's 'x-factor' and 'xtra factor' (yes, i do realise this is sad).
so it's just like taping something off the telly, but not. :-P
tony hancock at the royal festival hall.
im downloading the new series of sopranos. its not stealing because its not on dvd yet...or something.
Downloaded every season of Curb Your Enthusiasm off Bit Comet. Took 4 years, but well worth it.
and i get the same thing.
(also bt internet)
Seems to be different when i download from indietorrents though, it's always really fast... like, ridiculously fast. Just every other torrent site is slow.
as in, about 30kbs-ish.
i.e. not that slow really.
it's on an FAQ somewhere.
also, make sure your UDP and TCP ports that bitcomet uses are forwarded in your firewall/router control panel.
i have it all correctly configured through next door's 8MB homechoice connection and i get 300-550kb/s on most torrents.
how would do what you say (UDP and TCP ports are forwarded?). also i use Utorrent, but that shouldnt make a differnce?
when it's minimised to the tray though, right click it and make sure it hasnt got a download limit or upload limit.
i only got utorrent because about 50% of the torrents i got previously wouldnt open with bitorent. So i did a google and it recommended Utorrent, now they all open and download without errors.
I'm on AOL 1mb broadband and I get up to 150kbps. Depends on how many seeders there are. Sometimes torrents can have too many seeders though on public trackers and they go really slow.
If you have a router you need to find out how to log in to your router, and then do it on there. Most are either http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.1.1/ something like that I think. It's called "port forwarding" I think.
Have a look here...
A lot of it is "generic" information but it can be pretty helpful.
I can reach the dizzy heights of 5kb/s and I'm connected to 10 seeds, I think my computer is a bit crap.
I think it has more to do with the seed:leech ratio than the actual number of seeds. There will be far fewer leeches in an exclusive club like indietorrents, hence the higher dl rates.
is uknova, which is one of these 'exclusive' clubs. it's normally really fast (up to as fast as our broadband goes) but it's gone way down in the last couple of weeks. bah.
I'm having a similar problem with my connection - it was OK a week ago, but I've been running Soulseek 24/7 since, and I'm fairly sure I haven't run out of bandwidth. I don't really want to contact the ISP, since they might lay the smackdown on me for my illegal activities.
